In a sporty manual car, no big old Jag or Merc saloons.

I've seen a fair few Mitsubishi Evo's with that sort of power advertised for about 7-8k. Same for RX7's.

turbo or supercharge something with 250-300 bhp to start with or tune a japanese turbo motor. Probably buying a tuned supra would be the answer.

Winner.
Maybe not the cheapest, but certainly one of the most exciting ways.

It translates as 'somebody put a lot of time and money, and put some nice parts on this car, it's now fast and properly built'.

It's nice but this is cheaper at £6750 http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/mazd...

Can anyone beat it?

I read it as "this car has had lots of work done to the engine, but has dodgy brakes, bad paint, worn-out clutch and needs a lot of money spending on it to make it decent"

I recently brought a Audi S2 for £3k. I had it on the dyno a couple of weeks back and it was running 331bhp. It's still got the standard exhaust fitted, but has had all the RS2 upgrades, hybrid turbo, exhaust manifold, intercooler, injectors etc. I've just brought a second hand Milltek exhaust for £250, so with another remap and a custom down pipe I should be knocking on the door of 400bhp. I'm not sure what else I would have to do to get it to 450bhp, but it a fairly cheap route so far.

Or a good old Skyline, if you fancy 4(ish) seats and a boot.

Now this might be a typo but how about 1098bhp of RWD goodness for £5,000 in a cool shell too?

clicky

I read it as 'The paint is f****d, I'll happily admit it, and I'm being overly critical' biggrin
FWIW, clutch and brakes share the same reservoir on an RX7, so it's not outside the realms of plausibility that there's a breakdown in the symbiotic relationship they have biggrin
