Back in the day...hahaha a Sleeper was a standard car with a big lump shoe horned in it. For instance a fella on our street when I was about 12 (late 70's ) had a l plate (73) Vauxhall Victor with a 5.7 later v8, this was apparently quite an easy job and my Missus' brother couldn't afford a Savage Capri so made his own out of his 1.6 mk.2 but with a v4 out of a Tranny.
They were sleepers not the manufactured off self stuff of today.
This is my idea of a sleeper as well, not something which has come out of a factory with a daft amount of horsepower and some extra exhausts and wider tyres like I currently own. smile

In 1974 I had a Mk I Cortina with a 3.0 V6 in it from a Zodiac Mk IV and a 2000E gearbox. It looked exactly like a Cortina should, apart from the larger rear wheels. Hillman Minx 15" (same stud pattern) banded to 6" as alloys were only just emerging and very expensive at the time. smile

Maybe not a total sleeper but to the average Joe it was just an old A6 saloon.
Loved it!
Seriously? Tell me what do chrome mirrors on Audi's mean? .
That the owner has poor taste ?

I presume from your attitude "everyone knows" they mean it's an RS - newsflash - you're a nerd - 99.9% of people don't.
However the RS badges, the multitude of tail pipes and the noise may give it away, just a little
And the flared arches which are the most obvious thing yet no one has mentioned them, it's like an A6 on roids. Most definitely not a sleeper.

I don't think stickyfinger knows what he's talking about or he does and his post was meant to ... Well... Troll...

Anyone who knows anything about the new Superb's would not have posted what he did as it only highlights his lack of knowledge :-)
Well, yes... but I wondered if he might have something unexpectedly interesting to say. I'm unsurprised at the lack of a reply from him, if a little disappointed.

Thanks for your input Narcisus. smile

The question is "Sleeper Car"

Who was it who set the definition in law ?

I just have my own opinion as to the definition .... :to me: it is not because it has a great big Air-Scoop on the bonnet.

That's not the point though is it :-) It was you was it not that said the Superb 280 wasn't a Sleeper .... Myself and blearyeyedboy were anxious to know what facts you based that statement on ?

Seriously, Stickyfinger: I'm genuinely interested to know what you think is a sleeper. In my head, that Superb ticks almost every box so if you think differently, I'd like to know why.

If you just attack other people's choices without explaining why, people think you're trolling. Back it up with a reasoned explanation and I (and a few others) would be interested in your opinion.

Can you give me an example of a car you think is a really good sleeper instead? Like you said, there is no "law" so let's see what you've got in mind and see if you can convince people.

I think given the reference to the air-scoop that Stickyfinger is referring to either the Forester or something else as the Superb doesn't have an air-scoop on the bonnet (as far as I can tell).

Stickyfinger, your original comment was about the Skoda, and this is what we are all asking you about.

However much a nice wagon, not really a sleeper is it.
Not the Mitsubishi with the air scoop

So, why is the Skoda 'not really a sleeper'?

I suddenly really want this:-

It's a 3.2 litre V6 Vectra. It has over 200bhp and a top speed north of 150mph but there's nothing to imply it's anything other than a bog standard Vectra on the outside apart from the V6 label on the bootlid.

It's also under a grand, one for the Bargain Basement thread methinks!

Not one for bumping old threads, but spotted this on Facebook, and mistakenly put on the overpriced cars thread. This is a much better place for it.
