Just wondering if anyone knew whether the earlier Mazda3's with the 1.6 diesel engine had a DPF fitted? I know it became law after 2009 but some manufacturers fitted them earlier...

Thanks

Unlikely I would have thought. But not 100% sure.

I had a MY 2005 Mazda 6 with one in. I found out to my cost. A friend had a 2004 with one too.

So it's possible they were fitted to the early 3's

Mmmm sounds likely then... I was considering one of these or an old A3/Leon/Golf -

(see my other post at http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

It seems the older 1.9TDi VAG engines didn't have the DPF, and when emission laws started to change they bought out the 2.0TDi engine with improved emissions but the dreaded DPF... as far as I can work out, anyway

2003 to 2005 1.6 diesel has no DPF, post 2005 have a DPF as standard

ETA: you can tell a DPF and non DPF car apart by VIN number

JMZBK1*32 = Euro 3 1.6 diesel non DPF

JMZBK1*Y2 = Euro 4 1.6 diesel with DPF

Brilliant... I was just about to ask how I could tell in case I bought a late 05/early 06 car... great stuff smile

How did you know that/find out? Just wondering if there's a resource somewhere in case I consider some other cars and it's not clear whether they have a DPF or not...

Thanks!
