I've been recommended these pads as a good upgrade for road and track use by someone I trust and respect. Just about to order them, and the sites all say NOT for road use.

Can't contact my mate at the moment, so I was wondering if anyone on here has first hand experience of using them and what their thoughts are?

TIA!

I've used 1177, 1144 and 1155 (in that order!), so I haven't tried 1166, but I do think I have a bit of feel for the range and the products which occupy the upper and lower range of what you're considering.

1177 never really got hot enough to work predictably even on my Caterham race car in 20 minute races. They seemed fine at first but after a season they were barely worn and they weren't performing like new. This was a 520kg car though. When I drove the car on the road, the first few stops were a bit hair-raising but once warmed up they were 'okay'. When I phoned Mintex they weren't surprised, they said they were a very hard compound and that they used them to clean up the brake discs on their test rig such was their longevity and abrasiveness.

1144 was the default choice for the other Caterhams in my category so I tried those. Amazing on the road, amazing when cold but overheated very quickly on track. I later found out I hadn't observed the bedding in procedure which was probably the cause, everybody else was running them with no problems and they worked as well when stone cold as they did after normal driving so an excellent fast road choice.

1155 for me was perfect, which is why I stopped exploring the range. They didn't work quite so well for the first few stops but were by no means 'unsafe', I was still more than able to lock the brakes up from cold if necessary. I never saw any signs of overheating even with some 30-40 minute races.

I put some on the front of MPS for the TVRCC Cadwell track day this year.

Worked very well for what is a fairly heavy car, but they are squealing to much for general road use for me so I am changing back to normal road pads and keeping them just for track.

On my TVR I could use 1144's for track & road.
