Surely it has to go all the way the the states for JF to work his producer magic before it goes live... So wouldn't it be a US issue? Unless CH was holding everyone up.

On another note, if Sat BB is that rubbish I may have to rethink my move to the sticks If I want to continue running a digital company myself...

Unlikely to be CH holding it up otherwise the videos over the last two years would have suffered the same issues surely? Unless he has moved to an even more remote place recently.

But upload is still slow, and I assume download isn't the priority unless he's downloading raw to edit/upload himself?

But I don't think that'll be the case, either he starts with raw and uploads in which case he is screwed on a 100kbs ADSL/ISDN maybe connection.

Ooor, he is uploading raw for editors who can then do the rest, in which case he is screwed on same connection.

Afaik satellite still uses ADSL for sending the requests, just download is fast and via satellite?! If that is the case all having satellite will do is let you consume data, but processing to send back out which I assume is the issue here, won't be improved at all.

From my experience in a rural area with poor connection, a small mast and 3G is probably the best approach. Usually 3G is blocked off by terrain or being indoors, before it is with range... at least if you live anywhere half sensible.

If CH doesn't then he is boned.

Car drive with the HDD to a suitable location and a 3G dongle is thus required.

Upload delays because the internet's been crap this week? What an odd thing to say. It's 2014 and they all live in 1st world countries. Uploading stuff to the internet is their job and it's the early days of, effectively, a new company. Sitting around with their thumbs up their arses is not going to make it a success.

i wonder if he has had a quote to run fibre to his place, its not always mega expensive normally in the 5-15k range, but you have it for life, business write off and no worse than the loss on a V12 fezza wink

To be fair, as someone who is often having to upload key reports while out of the office, it's a bloody nightmare. My domestic broadband in central London is utter ste and trying to use 3G when out and about is pointless. Hotel broadband is usually st.

Regardless, people seem to be getting a little over emotional about a video being delayed. There's a little bit of 'I've paid £2.49 and that means I own these bhes'. It's £2.49, or whatever, who really cares if a video is a few days late.

And who fking cares if you can't get access in your country? If it's going to happen it will happen and then you can watch all the vids.

to be fair, they are running a business now, uploading content regularly should have been part of their model

it would be like having a mobile phone company and not having the bandwidth to deal with peak demand when a new iphone came out (looking at you O2 tongue out )

That's the reason I could never pay for DRIVE content. Jay Leno's Garage channel has a longer video from Pebble Beach with him driving some of the cars. Well worth a watch.

The CH video is OK this week, although pretty pointless given the conditions it was filmed it. Not sure I'd have felt it was money well spent - had I paid to view it.

I completely agree. But some of the complaints are getting really petty. Plus, this isn't a multinational but a small business and while I have no qualms giving a multinational a kicking for bad business I am always inclined to cut a small business far more slack. It's quite clear that the chaps involved aren't tts and I'm sure they are giving it their best shot. But in also sure that they aren't hard noses specialists with decades of experience launching new businesses or handling retail customer care. It does seem to have been a little bit of a fiasco and with social media businesses you can't really hide bit I think it is far more civilised for a client to offer to help a small business when they have issues rather than resorting to some of the small minded remarks that this thread seems to be descending into.

There is something going wrong with the people of this country and it's all going very 'mememe'. Why don't Drive's customers offer to help this small business get up and running and resolve these niggles? It's the civilised way of supporting a fledgling enterprise that you have invested in as an early consumer.

Sure it seems like there is a lack of feedback, content, Google support etc but I'm sure they are all trying to get it to work and I'm sure this is pretty new to most of them. Few journos have good business backgrounds but being supported by clients makes a huge difference.

BT. It's not good. There are clear periods during the day when it's shocking. And I'm convinced they throttle it back every time they are upselling a product in my area.

I'm also VOD which used to be the best and strongest UK coverage but in recent years this is very much no longer the case I suspect.

yeah London broadband is ste but unless he was manually sending binary code with a telegraph machine it doesn't explain the 4 month waiting for videos

When the staff of a 'small business' can afford to own Ferrari's and other exotica then I don't expect petulant excuses and silly delays. If you have earnt the money to buy a ferrari then you should have the professionalism and experience to hit the ground running.

By help, I mean 'not hinder'.

They are a small business, they are a start up, this is model a new area for most people. Having a bunch of petulant little Britons ranting about how they expect multinational levels of services or suffering some form of mental health entitlement issues that seem to make them believe that by paying £2.50 the people involved now work for them or I've just noticed 'if you can buy a Ferrari I expect better business practice' or whatever.

Sure Drive can improve and it's clear they will have to if they are to make it but what isn't going to help them are the deluded, self important, petulant buffoons bhing all the time. That's all. smile

No you fking pleb, most people are complaining because the content has got worse since it became a paid for sevice, not because we feel 'entitled'. Its basic economics. Would you pay for a mag sub that only arrived as an when the author could be arsed to get his st together?

Anyway, subscription cancelled. Will continue to enjoy the massive range of free content out there.
