I'd say the chances of OP's wife being able to buck this hambeast out of the car share being close to nil - that would be fatist, and despite the fact that fat people obtain their ridiculous size by the self-inflicted act of driving food down their neck, they're allowed to be fat, drain inordinate amounts of NHS resource and not have their feelings hurt.

Good luck OP.

Buy an old shed for work duties. Don't think HR will be very sympathetic.

Jesus titty fking christ - enforced car share?????

What is this a communist state??!
Not "enforced" at all. The OP's wife can say "I don't want to carshare" tomorrow morning.

It's merely a requirement of being allocated one of, presumably, only a few parking spaces. Life is full of such "compromises". You'll find out when you grow up.

Is it possible for human weight to wear out the suspension on a car?

Only in order for my wife to secure a parking space at her workplace she has to participate in the car share scheme.

The person she has been nominated to give a lift to is morbidly obese and I have genuinely noticed the car now seems to be permanently lower down on the passenger side, and on tight turns it has started knocking from that side. Along with this is the electric motor for elevating the seat has given up the ghost.

I cannot prove her bulk is the cause of this but until she came on board for the car share scheme it was perfectly OK.

My wife doesn't want to lose her parking space but would she be within her rights to request a normal sized passenger perhaps?
How fat is the person? What sort of weight are we talking about?
Difficult to estimate the weight but she fills most of the passenger side of an Audi A3, and my wife says she has had to increase her braking distances considerably. Another concern is our legal standing in the event of an accident as she can't get the seatbelt on fully and just holds it in place.
Are you trying to get me fired, I lost it at this point. Hilarious!

On a more serious note I'd be completely brutally honest with the fat fu%@, and say "Look unless you lose some weight you sure as hell aren't getting in my car. You're causing damage."

I understand people aren't as straight to the point as I am, so must agree with the HR manager way.

Isn't it the driver's responsibility to ensure passengers wear seatbelts? Breaking the law sounds like a good enough excuse to offload fatty.

She'd have to be VERY heavy to push the car over its MGW and loading it below that really shouldn't do it significant harm unless it's already damaged. Do you really think she weighs more than two "ordinarily fat" men would (one in the front and one in the back on that side)?

tip off police that your regular passenger refuses to wear a seatbelt and you are concerned about her safety so would like them to stop you (always drive along x road at 8am etc.)

She gets £100 fine and decides it's better to get the bus?

This thread is so full of win.

If she can't do up her seat belt then she is risking death and risking your wife's life as well.

She should speak to HR and say that under the circumstances she feels she can't offer a lift to the enormous unit with no seat belt.
I used to work with a girl whose nickname was Unit. She was a big girl, her name was Eunice and the armed forces isn't an environment for people who get easily upset hehe

When I got my first car, a classic mini, I took my grandad out for a spin, he was a big bloke, 18 stone plus As a guess, when he got in the rear feet of the seat buckled the floor pan, lol

It would appear type 2 has already called it, hence why he is in this mess..

Seatbelt issue aside, maybe get the brakes checked. I never notice any extra weight in the Jag or the Golf but they do have rather big brakes. I also never notice having to brake harder in the daewoo which has tiny tiny front disks and drums at the back. Even 4 up and a boot full of stuff it still stops the same.

Out of interest, what car does the larger person drive when it's their turn? Does their seatbelt fit in that?

Tell HR you have moved, get company post sent to parents house or relative for example, so the unsuitable passenger is no longer on her route ..

When I had a classic mini. I had a 20 stone blighter, his legs took over the gear stick, I had to rub his legs to get to my gear stick. hurl

Also that front left tyre was burned though and I couldn't steer as the bodywork was rubbing the tyre.
