Where did 300bhp/ton go?
Discussion
He's turned up on this thread under a different name:

TL:DR
OP buys a brand new Kia because he needs a reliable runabout with the advantage of a long (7-year) warranty. About 8 pages in, a poster reckons he's a fool for buying that, and should have bought a 20 year old Mercedes W124 instead.

I thought he was good for a laugh.
A thread asking 'what £5k car for my old mum' is boring enough. The early suggestion of a mid-90s Chevy Camaro, complete with links, photos and fierce argument, just added some predictable variation.
His 'what car' suggestions were legendary. Sadly missed as the real answer to almost all 'what car' threads is some kind of diesel st box. Plus, you could see the logic in his madness, which could be quite frightening. A thread asking 'what £5k car for my old mum' is boring enough. If PH is for people passionate about cars then a poster like 300 is a considerable loss. Contrary to what many say he was actually very knowledgable, certainly in his chosen subjects and he wouldn't have accepted 'diesel' as an answer unless it was some farcical industrial engine.
Good idea. He would get, I think, a fairly good summary of the conflicting positions.
I would hope that there is just about a majority that have plenty of time for nutters! He's a knowledgable nutter who knows, unlike most on here, that a diesel stbox is NEVER the right answer.
Even the government is now waking up to the idea that poisoning the air for the sake of £200 per year is lunacy.

Whilst 300bhp/ton could be amusing at times, what irritated me the most was how, when he chose to 'contribute' to a thread, he would not back down until he had 'won' the argument. Which usually involved banging on about it until everyone was so sick of it they would give in with a "yeah, ok, whatever" and then he'd need to have the last word too.

This thread popped up a couple of days ago, resurrected from a couple of years back, and while perusing it I noticed a familiar style argument. This is why he was irritating. One guy in there had owned one of the vehicles under discussion, yet 300 would not let it drop that HE was right and the other guy was a fantasists/lying/thick etc. Amusing reading to start with but soon descends in to wanting to punch your screen.

My favourite one was when someone on here was asking people whether he should buy a 911 or an E46 M3, 300bhp/ton suggestion was a pick up truck

to be fair to 300 - the question asked was for a 'fun weekend car'. Although mateyboy was looking at M3/911 300 wasn't wrong when he said that a Lightning ticks the fun box. There are a number of other boxes it doesn't tick but I'd venture to suggest that something with 360bhp, 0-60 in 5.5 secs, rwd with a light rear-end does actually make for an entertaining drive.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

What about the statement that a Camaro on summer tyres is as good a winter car as any FWD car on winter tyres, or something along those lines...
Having owned one of these I really can't defend this argument irocfan said:

well I had one for nearly 4 years and I didn't kill myself to death so I can only assume that the fault lies in other people's driving (and as much as I'd like to be I'm no driving god)
I died 3 times just reading the spec sheet. 1950s chassis plus over 300bhp killed me dead and then I read about the weight distribution and died twice.ORD said:
