RE: Future proof: PH Blog

In no particular order
Lotus Exige Roadster (as someone else has said I hope they start selling a few more!)
Porsche Boxster, somehow I just didn't like the earlier ones
GT86/BRZ
Last of the defenders
Caterham 620R, have they sold ANY of these? Only the two press cars appearing anywhere on the net.
Audi R8, but must be V10, convertible, and manual, and probably grey
McLaren 12C, but must be papaya orange, alcantara & leather with orange stitching, no carbon, no MSO extras
Hope to add the new MX5 to the list. I have a Eunos, and the Mk2 and Mk3 simply haven't done it for me.

Some of these may offer very good value for money, used. Others will remain out of reach.

I think you have more of a chance with the C63 - NA V8 and torque converter auto... There's been plenty of those around for years, and esc/dsc systems are mostly quite mature by now.
It's something like the current M5 that would give me the heebie jeebies.
C63 is not a torque converter auto - it has an automated wet clutch. It's something like the current M5 that would give me the heebie jeebies.
/Pedant mode.

If the dumb bds at Toybaru had fitted a turbocharged engine they'd have at least stood a chance of selling more.itscsuch a nice car to drive but woefully underpowered in the modern sports car world.
+1Furthermore, that car should have been beautiful to look at... feline, classical, something that you admire even when it's parked.
As is, it looks a bit like an appliance.

However a wheel change and loosing some ride height makes a huge difference to the second point.
There are an increasing number of NA tuning options now that seem to be coming on the market, not huge gains but enough to actually make it feel like the 200bhp it should have!

I quite fancy a £12-15k M135i in a few (3-4?) years time. Should be reliable and look pretty fresh still. Nothing else modern (in a sensible price range) has quite the want-one factor for me. If you have a superman-spec 5dr auto then please look after it!
For the first time I ended up behind one yesterday being driven by a person with a lead foot and he kept dropping back and booting it I think in boredom as no overtaking opportunities.Good chance to listen to what it sounded like and to be honest i thought it sounded pretty naff from behind. Flat and without much character. Even bordering on 4 pot.
Why is it that Merc seem to be the only ones who can make a turbo engine sound good at the moment(out of the box)
Slightly off on a tangent but you want to be looking at the diesels of this time if buying in the future and having the need. Urea injection and stricter rules coming in for EU6 means the last semi reliable diesels will be the EU4 and 5s.
Seat Leon Cupra will be a bargain in a few years if they have they follow the same trend of the mk2. Tempted for my daily runner in a few years.

Can you really fit a proper bike (MTB) in the back of a GT86?
If so, that's just moved one up my shopping list a few places.
Yep, I managed to get a Demo 8 downhill bike with triple clamp forks etc in the back. I've got a photo somewhere which I'll post up/PM you if I can dig it out but it was surprisingly easy. If so, that's just moved one up my shopping list a few places.
Cheers,
Dan

4C is a guaranteed classic in my eyes.
Mixed reviews, good performance, quite unpractical car, limited sales because demand is not huge but even so they can’t keep up with production. I’m sure the ones with the ugly bug eye headlights will command a premium in the future just because they were "special". (I think the Spyder headlights look miles better!)
C63 estate with LSD is definitely on my list but I wish I had a magic crystal ball to see where the values are going. Seems to me that so far they hold their value better than similar AMG cars?
In the year or so before it was launched I had the 4C in mind as a future 'pre-loved' purchase. The reviews haven't done it any favours, which will hopefully speed up the depreciation.Mixed reviews, good performance, quite unpractical car, limited sales because demand is not huge but even so they can’t keep up with production. Before that will be the Evora S. Prices are remaining stubbornly just above my target price range. I may have to sell a kidney.

That'd be great thanks - I'd assumed the wider bars of MTBs over road bikes would make it difficult with the size/shape of the boot aperture. Happy now!
I haven't got the pic to hand so can't remember if it went in with both wheels off or just the front one. Either way I was surprised given the width of the bars, the length of the DH forks and fact you can't fully turn the bars flat because of the double crown design. I think the front passenger seat had to go fully forwards but it did go in. Cheers,
Dan
Fiesta ST Mk2 - Owned the first incarnation and loved it, would like to have one of these as a runabout one day
Audi RS4 - perfect for when I eventually have kids, and perfect for sticking the lab in the boot
GT86 - See what the fuss is about
M135i - Same as above
Focus RS - Driven the ST, loved the 5 pot sound, and think owning the bigger brother would be epic!

JustBoxters pretty much nailed my list before I got there! Admitedly there are a couple in there that might not suffer the depreciation required, but I can dream!
'Utility' Vehicle: (Able to tow (Boats!), swallow the bikes, head to the tip etc..) (~£30-40k spend)
- 2013 RS6
- 2013 RR Sport
- 2013 Macan/Cayenne Turbo
'Long Distance'comfort mile muncher (~£50k spend)
- 2014 S63 AMG Coupe - Fell in love with this at Goodwood, hoping for astronomical depreciation!
- Another S Class of some description
Fun/Weekend Vehicle (~£70-90k spend)
2012 Aston Vanquish
2013 R8 V10+
2013 911 Turbo
