that straight six is much more Jag than the V8 they moved on to.

i want this car sooooo much, but if i bring home another 'old man' jag after selling the Daimler earlier in the year i will be getting a divorce.

But none of the V8s came as a manual?
Would tend to agree with you though, the V8 is a peach.
Mate has the V8 and it's stunning. Bro has the 4.2 XKR and it's the best looking coupe ever. Tacky electronics though ...

About this XJR: nobody complaint until the V8 came. Shame.

The 6 cylinder cars are overlooked ever too often. Check the Cerbera: bargain with a sweet six in.

That looks very, very tempting. Pity it is not black leather (just personal preference). And I wonder how bad the tin worm is on this one. But still. What a machine.

They definitely have a cult following amongst X300 fans. There were about nine of them lined up side by side at the recent Jaguar Enthusiast's Club 30th Anniversary show. Unlike the lower spec manuals, they generally command a premium over the auto due to rarity.

The chap who did the X300 ECU mapping for Jaguar (Andy) and the Chairman of the JEC (Rob) went through all the build records at Jaguar, by hand, making notes on all the XJR6 manuals. They'd be able to tell you if this one is factory fit or a retro-fit.

I thought about buying one, but my auto 3.2 is more than enough.

As an aside, a JaguarSport XJR is an 4.0 litre N/A XJ40. Completely different kettle of fish.

The person selling the XJR V8 at £2850 sold me my car with a completely bodged diff.

I wouldn't touch anything from him with Lefty's double wrapped stunt cock.

Side note: do the revenue get a bit pissy with traders pretending to be private sellers?

would probably do almost 30mpg on a run too with the straight six... lots of want here
Doubtful, in my old 4.0ltr straight 6 XJSport it was difficult to get it near 26mpg on a long run. Was still a very nice car though, more akin to driving an armchair, and for it's length surprisingly easy to parallel park.

I think £2,500 is more realistic ,any XJ is hard to sell, you can buy a 4,0 litre 2004/2005 for £5-6k all day long, there not reliable ,expensive for parts, drink fuel like a ocean liner ,and the electrics are not well built ,

I'm not sure I agree with that! The manual X300 XJR6 has quite a following, and there are very few of them. They sell for considerably more than the manual version. They're emerging as a classic car now, so the value of them is not connected to later cars - but to what an enthusiast will pay for one.

These six cylinder Jags are mechanically and electrically reliable and parts are cheap. They do guzzle fuel, especially if you use the performance - and you will. They also like to rust.

@ thejpster - Yes, the 'Jaguarsport XJR-4.0' is the XJ40 version. Much rarer still in manual form.

Not reliable?, and drink like an ocean liner!?!?, buy a Polo diesel then!!...What tosh they came top of the JD power survey......good to see people who know Jack st spout off. We ran a manual X300 in the old bill ( it was in Coventry after all), quite a heavy clutch and ponderous albeit satisfying gear change.....perfect for Motorway duties not so good round town......I did like it though......lovely car this XJR and I think used sparingly will not cost a fortune in depreciation.

That is beautiful. I prefer the older ones too. I'd love to own that!

I wasn't sure whether I would rather have this 4 litre Sovereign with similar miles, also at £10k. But its sold!

I wonder what they got for it? It wasn't for sale long, which surprised me.

Urgh, i was only looking the other day to see if i could find a manual XJR for sale.
I miss my old S Type R alot.
But im enjoying having a manual box.
Anyone remember the mega high mileage XJR manual that was up for sale about this time last year?

Yep me too! Been looking at an xjr for the best part of a year now, decided to settle on a 6, recently was given the opportunity to try out a higher mileage 4.0 sovereign. Still felt a million dollars. Want this, a lot.

Think I've put most of the bids on that but sure it will go for more than I'm willing to pay. If so I'll look for an auto again hoping I can pick a decent one up for under £3k.

Seem to be lots of ropey ones that tempt me but think they could be ruinous :-(

In the words of Jonathan Swift - I can resist anything but temptation.

Right colour, right wheels - I'd have to bin the half-timbered wheel though...

That's my thinking too, been hovering around the jag forum for a while now, a wealth of knowledge in there concerning x300's and the main conclusion when taking on one of these is buy the best you can. Loads of seemingly excellent examples about before summer then they all disappeared!!

i do like these 300 versions too, and manual jags are thing to behold. most people who slate them have never driven one in ernest! completely different animal than the waftastic auto. i have both autos and manuals in my collection, so i can accurately compare both.

how about the original Manual XJR (XJ40). Fancy doing a feature on this car PH??
