Just to cream you up a little more, sadly not manual but the switchable auto is sublime.
Liking yours Naki, interesting to see a late one with quad headlamps??
mine actually came with fishtank headlamps, so i converted to quads on this car.
i like the fishtanks, just not on the XJR. i have a sovereign and daimler double six versions of XJ40 too, and i think it suits those better.

i like having autos and manual in my collection, as each one has its own unique pros cons.

we can only dream. apparently "there was no demand for a manual V12" back then.
i have often said this in jag circles. if they had done a manual V12, i think there would be more respect and more demand for these cars, as that would have been the most sort after variant, which would have bolstered prices for the entire range. as we know, its nearly always the top spec "sporty" variant of a model range that becomes the most sort after and valuable one. think Sierra cosworth, M5 bmw, and those with manual boxes providing the most sporty experience.

alas, if you want a V12 manual, you only have a few options. convert is yourself, or find a Lister version. with the 7.0 V12/ manual box!

This is the manual Jaguar which I always craved: the XKR-R which I think was some kind of development mule for the Aston DB7 V12.

It came with a five-speed manual box as well as an LSD (not forgetting the half roll cage in the rear). Presumably, there are specialists who can retro-fit these items since Jaguar never wanted to release the car onto the open market in this guise. I guess that was because it would undermine the DB7 V12 as a direct competitor.

Personally, I think the XKR-R looks and sounds like an epic driver's car. What a shame marketing priorities got in the way. Suits, eh?!

oh yes, i think i remember that on TG once. and they said exactly he same, about it weeing all over the AM, hence they were not allowed to make it.
thing is, am not saying everyone should buy the manual, but atleast have it as an option for F sake.

same story with the XJS. only the pre HE V12s had the option, and they only sold about 350 of them apparently, so not worth it in their eyes? now look a the prices of the manual pre HE goes for compared to the equivalent condition auto version. they binned it off for the HE version. what a mistake

Manual XJ -S was binned several years before HE -pretty sure HE was not reason for demise afaik.

very well sorted and under-rated car. I was at Goodwood in 1996 when someone in the 6 cylinder XJR managed to go up the hill faster than the 993 Carrera that was part of the super-car run....love these old XJ-Rs....

I didn't realise there were so many of us on here! No pictures of mine available (at work at the mo), but it's good to see there are several on here being used. Would be tempted with this manual, but there's no way I'd trade in my 40 for anything, even with the auto. The sound in Sport Mode is almost worth it alone.

Also, I don't think the X300 came with an LSD. The XJ40s did but the X300s I've driven had the traction control fitted instead. Bloody cost cutting...
Off the top of my head the X300 XJR has a LSD. It's also a higher geared diff from the 3.2. My 3.2 is pulling 2,500 rpm @ 60mph whereas my XJR pulls 2,000 rpm for the same speed. I believe that one of the best performance mods to make to an XJR is to swap the diff for the 3.2.

Really, how often in the real world do you need an LSD ? Perfect elevens just eat my tyres!!

Firebird:
XKR-R otherwise known as XKR+, had a Tremec T56 (6 speed) manual box fitted; as did its two sister development mules.
There was NO connection or collaboration with AM other than SVO benchmarking the DB7's use of the T56.
A major feature of the car was the completely new (to XK) rear supension and uprated LSD. These modifications necessitating a completely new floor pan rearward of the heelboard. Of course there were many other changes / modifications which resulted in a very special and accomplished motor car; one that I have had the pleasure of driving on many occasions.
Sadly, as you say, something got in the way of a planned limited production run of around 200 off. Oh and yes, at a good profit!
Jaguar has often been critcised for not delivering after teasing the world with its one-offs. But in this instance, production was but a sniff away - as the rug was pulled from under it.
