I already have to "explain" the carbon-heavy S4 to the few customers that notice it so guess that seals it.
You have some mighty weird customers, would they rather you have a particulate belching diesel? rolleyes and B8 S4's arent that bad emissions wise.

M4 definitely!

The Tesla looks like a Peugeot RCZ or 208 bolted onto the back of a Passat CC!!

Another vote for Tesla here, and agree with another person's idea of a second 'run-about' for longer more complicated journeys.

Plus, in terms of BD it's an excellent conversation starter, and makes you look like you care about financials (no-one actually cares about eco credentials) making customers/partners more happy to use you/your company.

Bit OT but does anyone else wonder if Tesla will be quick to revise the interior of the S as almost all the reviews I've read have criticised the 'Tablet' in the middle.

Back On Topic. I'd have the Tesla in a heartbeat over the M4 because of BMW's complete lack of customer service, their expectation the customer will be the 'Test mule' & their continual refusal to accept faults are not characteristics of their cars!!
I've seen plenty of reviews that say the tablet is great, i remain to be convinced myself though. You need to take your eyes off the road because you can't feel the buttons.

To answer the OP, it would be the Tesla for me.

This seems, to be a greater or lesser degree, to be a problem with all menu driven systems. I certainly found it a problem with iDrive and I'd imagine a touch screen would be much worse because at least you can learn the common navigation combinations if you have a physical control.

It's a 40% increase in CO2 over the most fuel efficient petrol option, which looks pretty indefensible if you are the sort of person who cares about that kind of thing (and if your business is selling specifically to people who do care about that kind of thing, it isn't good for business).

Thanks all

Looked at the i3 but think it's the Tesla for me. The idea about a Lotus or something is great, I'd better start saving!

Thanks again to everyone
Write up a Readers Cars thread once you've had it for a while though! I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it as a daily hack.
Oh and spend £85 or something of the money you're saving on your bike CBT - after a day plodding about on a 12hp bike you'll learn how not to kill yourself & be desperate to learn how to ride something bigger smile

I've sat and had a good look at Tesla's screen. It's fine, but I think positioned where it could become distracting IMO.

As long as it's components have the ability to be upgraded, it's fine. Modular car systems are the way forward.

(Phones are next - infact it's here and coming this year and next)

If you need to drive something 'green' for work it has to be the Tesla. However I disagree that the interior is special, it's rather cheap and doesn't use premium materials, plus the driving position is odd (too high).

The touch screen is very clear and quick to respond, but they have put far too many controls in there. You spend too long looking away from the road to perform what should be very simple operations. I'd be surprised if they don't re-think that in the future.

Aren't most of the more commonly used functions, climate, audio etc controlled by the steering wheel buttons also?. You can also configure the driver display/instruments to show the settings so they are in your line of sight while driving.

Sure, the big pad would be distracting if you had to take your eyes off the road to use it, but you don't need to use it at all while driving.

There are lots of youtube vids that cover the use of the car both from Tesla and many private owners. May be a good idea to watch a few.

Having driven both there is absolutely no question for me, especially uf someone else is paying. Tesla all the way. BMW is just another car the same as the rest just a different badge. Tesla is a game changer.

Tesla.

I'm nearly 6 months into EV ownership and I can't see me ever going back to ICE cars. Make the change, you won't regret it.

p.s. great to see such a positive response for the Tesla on this thread, especially when compared to an M4.

Both are rather bland.

Try to get an M5 or i8.

Tesla.

I drive a Leaf as my day to day runabout and I'm a convert. The Leaf's range isn't as good as the Tesla's but it does me. There's a Tesla in my future, I think. The Roadster is the only car I can think of that I'd change the Porsche for...

My tesla experience can be summed up as - deeply impressed, completely unexcited. As an everyday replacement for say a fast diesel then great, but the M4 would win for me every time. We've got decades ahead of new electric cars - enjoy cars like the M4 while you can... You can tell your clients that it's hugely greener and more economical than the old M3 and your S4, so in fact you've gone for the green option...
