RE: David Brown Speedback GT: Review
Discussion
I like it, saw it at Goodwood, very well finished for a low production car, interior may not be to all tastes but for me when I sat in it I couldn't fault it. I reckon it's a wee bitty expensive but I wish them well and reckon it'll sell to enough customers who see that as small change to be a viable concern.
I saw it at Millbrook a few months ago and was struck by its length. I knew instantly what it was though. It's different enough from the original not to be mistaken, so I guess it's not intended to be a replica DB5.
The price is staggreing!
Oh, and the F12 left it well and truly in its wake, for about 40% of the cost.

Zod, I wasn't criticising platform sharing at all. It is an unfortunate side effect of car manufacturers trying to fill every possible gap in a market that used to be perfectly happy with what it had a few years ago. Anyway I digress, my criticism was leveled at all the cars looking the same. All Astons look the same from 50 yards and only a careful eye would know the difference. Porsche is the same. By Db using a tested and approved platform that had excellent reviews he can spend the money elsewhere. This is not styled to ' hint at aggression' or look like it will rip your bumper of if you don't get out of the way nor is it meant to drive as such. It's a car that's designed to arrive in. In every sense of the word. It's fast enough to see of many sports machines without making a show of it and corner quickly without immolating is tyres in a screeching cloud of smoke.
I also don't think that the Singer or Eagle are rivals. They are EXACTLY what this is not - remade classics.

A truly awful looking car. So badly proportioned, it just looks awkward.
For the money, go and buy an Evanta, based on the DB7 Vantage:
Or, Singer:
Or Eagle:
I wasn't aware of the Evanta, I shall have a look later. That fuel filler cap looks better on the flank than the bonnet of a 911, but to my eyes it's needlessly fussy compared to the flap on the front wing of a standard 911. For the money, go and buy an Evanta, based on the DB7 Vantage:

It's called the 'hofmeister kink'. Originated on BMW, but adopted by a lot of other cars now.http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/04/07/what-is-the-hofm...

Nope as has been said used by Aston Martin in 1953 perhaps Mr Hoffmiester had one too many lagers and thought he'd invented it. Obviously on this car the style element is taken from the DB6 but as Will says that in turn takes it from the DB2/4..

Tut tut .... someone has built an "Aston Martin" on a Jaguar platform ... that will never do ... oh - I have just remembered what the DB7 was based on
I don't think that in itself is the complaint. It's the £600k price that people are questioning. The DB7 was a practical way to deal with tough times and, although expensive, it did not cost hypercar money or anything close to it.TJS10 said:
I saw it "in the metal" at the weekend at quite liked it, not keen on the dog cock red interior, but that is a minor cosmetic point, no doubt you can have any colour you like. I assume the mirrors are "work in progress" again a minor point.
The rear seat is interesting, ideal for a tiger shoot or middle eastern falconry ... or watching vintage cars blast up a hill.
There is nothing wrong with the Aston DB styling clues, overall a good effort reminiscent of the Lyonheart Jaguar project.

Was talking to the (rather lovely) young lady on the stand and she said the price was 400 and something thousand (still a lot but less than the article states) and apparently they have already sold 6!
Personally if I had half a million in the bank for a car I would build a large garage and fill it full of some cars I've always wanted rather than spend it all on one 'modern' car.
Good luck to the company though, takes some balls to build a car like that and ask around the £500k mark for it!
