Hi. First of all please let me appologise in advance... im not a piston head, in fact I know little to nothing aboit cars. But im asking for help. So please take pitty on a very inxperianced woman...

on tuesday I brought a KA from a second hand dealer. He explained to me that it had been in an acident but that the damaged had been fixed and was fine to drive.. it was a good price and although I now it needs a bit of tlc, the car drives perfectly. Anywhoo fast farward to today and I pass my driving test. I get straight home and insure the car, no problems.. then I decided to call up yhe tax disc people (.gov website) to see if I needed to print off my insurance to take to the post office to tax the car. Whilst on the phone the woman said just give me your reg and ill make sure your ok to yax it. And it came back as a cat c and I needed to get a VIC check done before I can tax it.... yes I know your all growning to yourselves thinking stupid woman. I tookymy nephew with me to get the car and he had just finnished his 3rd year at collage doing machnics and even he thought very thing was finw with the car. But hey, you live and learn... anyway a few question please.1. If ive got the V5C can I still tax the car at the post office and get the vic done at a latet date??
2, if not, is there anyway I can hurry the vic check along... I wanna gey the car on the road and driving asap. Obvoisly.
Im trying yo get the cost of the vic back off of the seller through throwing the sales act and ive told him that if it fails the vic I want my money back. He is sure that if I take the v5c yp the post office they will tax it...just not sure what to do... advice please? ??

Nope you'll need a VIC check prior to taxing it

It's not like an MOT, it is more of an ID check to make sure they have really repaired a car, and not stolen one and just put the plates on it instead.

???

You can't get e new V5C for a car with a VIC flag on it.

Is the dealer suggesting you use the existing ione with the previous keeper's details on it? That's a bit naughty and the details won't match your insurance paperwork.

You don't have the v5c. I'm guessing you have the v5c/2, which is the new keeper supplement. Little green slip about the size of a cheque?

That'll be from the v5c from before the car was crashed and written off. So it's effectively useless. You can't tax the car from that at the post office, you will need a VIC test before you can tax it. I've done it myself around 1 yr ago

Yeah thats what ive got. He told me to take that down to tax it. He told me to take the paperwork back to him and he will sort it out. And then he said he had taken his half to the post office and he had managed to tax it and had the disc there and to go over and give him the £80 and hed guve me the disc. Needless to say I told him I would not give him the originals (asehe wanted) and that I would not go and get the disc from him cus one I can't drive the car and 2 I wanted to make sure that it was all above board. Dodgy as you like or what? ??? Lmao

Undisclosed Cat 'C' car with a potentially dodgy history by the sounds of it. Take it back and ask for a refund **NOW**

Dealers cannot sell written-off cars unless they make it clear when the car is sold. Don't drive it any further than back to the supplying dealer.

Or you could get involved with the VIC and the costs and risks involved of course... frown

Edit: ...and, BTW, you didn't 'brought' it - you fekkin' 'bought' it; there's a difference between 'to bring' and 'to buy'

Aye, starting with the teeth grinding 'brought'. Jesus.

Anyhoo, to the OP, the dealer is taking advantage of you due to your inexperience. Get someone (well built Company director or a fridge thrower) involved who knows what they're doing to sort this out for you. Legalities are on your side but you're obviously not able to deal with this so get some help.

I believe she is sorted chaps.

Lets hope she takes some advantage of the knowledge available on here, and posts up details of what she is going to look at next.

1. Thank you to the ones that have helped me, that was very much appreciate.
2. To all of you that are more concerned with my spelling and grammar, shame on you. I was asking for help and all you could do is post silly little picture and and take the p!ss.
For your information, I was typing on a mobile phone whilst being so annoyed and angry at both myself and the garage guy that I just typed away and didnt really check. Im also dyslexic, so I apologise for the lack correct grammar.

But to tho's of you (bet that "tho" really peed you off! Lmfao) that actualy help me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have now taken the dodgy car back and have got my money back, in cash, (its real, ive checked)

now, if any of you are in my area (south Birmingham) and sell cars, im looking for a small car 1.0-1.3 that would be cheap to insure. I would actually like a KA. But beggars cant be choosers. I would need a decent amount of tax and practally a years mot on it please and I have £500 cash waiting
... oh nothing green in colour ( other half has a thing about green cars always crashing???) And no matiz ( cant stand them) thank you for your time gentlemen. Ann

You made the mistake of not posting a picture of your self (well, it doesn't even need to be you really as long as it is of a female with a pulse, and that's optional) and they would have been falling over their tongues to help you.

Glad you got it sorted anyway.
