OP, I've driven like that for years, no police officer has ever bothered me, so far, although I've seen the odd post on here where the poster claims to have been reported for it.

With your video, I'm wondering of they'd get a report to stick ?

I wonder what offence, if any, you're committing ?

The Police can't be everywhere unfortunately, especially on the motorway.

I'm not sure barreling down lane 1 in excess of the speed limit is going to encourage people to keep left either.
Except I wasn't speeding, as I already stated.
I'm not defending lane hoggers by any stretch of the imagination but as I said people won't be encouraged to move left if there's a vehicle undertaking them in lane 1.

Why does the 'undertaking' law exist anyway? You need to check your mirrors/ blind spot when you're changing lanes in either direction, so in theory it's no different.
What am I missing?

Did you overtake the police car on the inside?
Yes, I stayed in lane 1. They were in the middle lane.

Quite simply it doesn't, there is no such law.

What we actually need here is the advice of an expert, an actual constable, Vonhosen, Elroy blue, the spitfire one, amongst others.

Would they choose to either speak to or report the op, or not, and why ?

Haha! Ace. That's so frustrating. New powers almost impossible to implement - you must have passed 20 cars there, how can an occasional cop car possibly do all 20. It's a pointless law.

Wish there was a better was to fix this problem.

Would have been ironic if the big gantry sign you passed had said "keep left...." Lol

Driving without due care and attention is that handy catch-all law that is used for undertaking.

Although I think there is irony there that he was the only one driving with any sort of attention. wink

If I was the officer in the unmarked car, I would have pulled over the knuckle-dragging feckwit in the stbox at the front of queue holding everyone else up - namely the BLACK MAZDA K*56 TTU. Given him / her a full-on bking and a nice fine for good measure.

this x10000000000

If every penny spent of fecking speed cameras was diverted to something usefull like traffic plod and targeted at these mouth breathing low life follow my leader retards, the whole motoring world would be a whole lot better. I dont drive on motorways much these days thank feck, but when i do, I make a point of driving past these fecking retards on the inside lane with horn blaring waking them up from their middle lane stupor.

Pretty much expect this on most motorway journeys. I resist the urge to pass on the left, but it almost has to be done sometimes.

I've been round the M25 three times in the past week & see it both in and out of rush hour/business hours. Yesterday there were a variety of drivers in lane three on the new four lane sections. What I think should concern us all is if they're so lacking in observation to use the wrong lanes then they sure as hell won't he observing you undertaking then if they do pull in. I suspect if an accident occurred you'd be in the wrong.

The best way they can change the law is to make it legal to strap an old tyre to your front bumper and punt the ignorant c**trods into lane one yourself. A good shove from behind (fnar) might actually wake the fkers up.

My mate does this aswell . His excuse...the left hand lanes too bumpy because the trucks have pounded it!

To be honest , the Police would more likely to be interested in Op illegally undertaking for a fair bit .

That car 56 secs in, the rear lens looked booted Astra/Belmont like seemed to have started to indicate left to pull over, perhaps once they'd seen you approaching?

I've come across outside lane hoggers on my nearest NSL dual carriageway, if they don't move over after a while if I return to the LH lane they sometimes pull over as if they've realised they're hogging the outside lane or about to be passed on the NS.

I did a long cross country drive last year, I think I did less than 30 miles on two M-ways and just used them to get to get A-roads, partially to avoid stuff like this. It was a bit of a snakes and ladders route to avoid M-ways.

It's just another example of the contradiction in having two 'overtaking' lanes all subject to a strictly enforced 70 mph limit. It should be no surprise to see American type driving habits and conditions in an American type speed regime.

IE the logic being applied is probably if traffic is running at around 70 mph it doesn't really matter what lane anyone is in.With the benefit of not getting boxed in behind slow running trucks etc in lane 1 with traffic approaching from behind taking forever to pass because of the extremely small,if any, speed differentials between lanes.

Because all those that he undertook may have been waiting to overtake the car directly in front of them-we just don't know and perhaps the car at the front was actually overtaking some one in the inside lane. I agree it looks bad but if you are trying to overtake someone in the middle lane there is often no alternative to sitting it out in the middle lane till you get a gap in the outside lane. A fourth lane would help but the same pattern could emerge there too and so on. So bring in undertaking!
