For the last few years, it has cost me circa 300 - 350 quid to insure my 13-year old VAG turbo, value £1500, fully-comp. That included an excess of 300 quid, rising to 500 quid last year.

Suddenly this year, with the same car and all the same insuring criteria - the policy has dropped to just over 200 quid. A considerable saving, but even better, this price this year is also now with a zero excess for all claims, including a zero excess 'unlimited' claim for windscreens.

How come? NCB this year is 10 years, up from 9 last year - which I thought was the maximum anyway?

Strange. But happy days! Anyone else?

I was quite surprised at this years renewal, after a lengthy chat on the phone to-ing and fro-ing. Added the girlfriend and even though she had a car stolen months previously my premium went down a few hundred quid.

My renewal with Churchill was a fairly hefty hike, they couldn't get near my best quote this year despite being cheapest last year.

Insurance generally seems a lot cheaper these days, £300 for my 350Z seems quite reasonable, perhaps turning 30 has something to do with it?

You've probably changed your risk profile in some way... probably your age.

For the last three years my house insurance and my car insurance have been swapping between one being with priviledge and one being with churchill. They can never beat each others quotes which is odd as they are both part of direct line. It's madness i honestly cant tell the two companies apart when i look at their letters, documents, the call centre recorded messages etc. I assume direct line micromanages the two brands and tells then what kinds of customers to focus on in any given year (alternating between house and car in eavh year)

Maybe the OP has got a year older. That's quite common between consecutive renewals. Maybe he has crossed some age boundary.

The renewal on my Corrado was £5 up on last year but I decided to shop around anyway. Now paying £170 for comp including business miles if needed instead of £238 if I'd stayed put.

Oddly, when I sent proof of 12+ years NCD the new insurer only used 9+ because that's their maximum.

Switched from my 106 Rallye £380 last year. To a mk2 MX5 Originally quoted £560.. Said no, came back with £430.

Is that similar to others insuring MX5's? Im 26, 6 years NCB. In Kent.

Not too bad, got both cars on a multi-car policy for £365, saved about £80 on the 159 (from a standalone quote of £250-ish to £173) and about the same again on the old coupe (£260-ish to £192-ish on the multi-car, just needs MOT and tax now smile ).

Interesting thread. I got my renewal through at the same time as a flyer from M&S. The flyer offered, for any M&S cardholder, to beat any renewal quote by £50 on a like-for-like basis.

My renewal £221. Rang my insurer to see what would happen to the premium if I reduced my voluntary to £0 from £250. Answer? Reduced!! To £190. So called M&S who offered £140. Back to my insurer and explained the situation. Best they could do was £160! So I was happy to settle for that.

Pays to go back and challenge any renewal at the moment.

Mine went down quite a chunk this year, but I hit fifty before the renewal so that is probably the reason.

Obviously I will now be driving much more slowly. evil

If it's a 14 plate it's only been on the road for a few months so not a direct comparison?

Always good news that premiums are coming down though.

Mine went down a fair bit this year (April) and for no apparent reason. OK, I'm a year older, but 49 instead of 48. I cant see why that would matter.
