She who must be obeyed is considering a interesting car

So 2 door coupe/softop like something

budget 20Kish on the never never or 7Kish cash

Reliable

Not an audi

Not too hard to get in and out of

Not an audi

Reasonable ground clearance as we live up a farm track

Not an audi

Softish suspension as we live up a farm track

Not an audi

Reasonable fuel consumption as it will be a daily driver but not a diesel unless ultra reliable

No stupidly large wheels

Can live outside

Currently thinking MX-5 or a GT86

Doesn't like a 350Z

oh and not an audi

Coupe, but with soft suspension and good ground clearance is a tricky one. First thing that sprung to mind was the Evoque, but not sure if they're available for £20k yet.

Otherwise, perhaps a 3 series coupe. Plenty around for either of your budgets, just pick the engine you want.
Alfa Brera is another one. The looks are a bit marmite, she'll either love it or hate it.

A bit left field but how about a citroen DS4. High ground clearance, soft(ish) suspension, looks a bit more interesting than a normal hatchback. Cheap to buy too and comes with diesel and petrol engines.

Hyundai Coupe. Good ground clearance, small wheels, and quite softly sprung. Plus it's not an Audi.

Been through this recently with a budget of more like £5k.

I actually only deleted the shortlist last night. We came down to (iirc):

350Z (noted)
Boxster
Hyundai Coupe
Fiat Coupe
A N Other (it'll come to me)

I posted a similar thread at the time and other suggestions included:

147GTA
RX8
S2000

In the end she reduced that to the Z and the Fiat and decided that despite age etc she really really wanted the Fiat. So that's what she got. Probably not going to work for your requirements.

Not sure if either meet the criteria exactly but the Honda CRZ and Hyundai Veloster both look interesting even if not traditional coupes.

Would have to check the suspension element though.

Feel free to ignore if these are way off!

Toyota GT86 (you will just have to tarmac your farm track)

Clearance would be the least of his worries with a GT86 - mine seems fine for ground clearance (gets over speed cushions fine). I'd be more worried about stone chips, punctures, and (me being a complete tart) getting it muddy tongue out

Depends how bad the farm track is I guess. There's a guy on the owners forums who lives on a farm in Sevenoaks and manages just fine (think he even lowered it).

TT

Apreciate Audi being ruled out but surely a lesser spec TT with sensible wheels & quattro to help with the lane.

Otherwise 3 series petrol coupe in SE spec rather than M-Sport.

GT86 fits your description perfectly. The only minor change I'd make to that is get the Subaru BRZ instead.. much rarer for a similar price. 2013 model gets the 5 year warranty too. Plus.. it's not a Toyota wink.

I get 45mpg in my BRZ on the motorway and 30 odd around town. An absolute blast to drive, more than enough power (no matter what anyone else says) and I came from a 340BHP Impreza.

Do it, you won't regret it!

We just picked up a Peugeot 207 cc. £9k got us a 22k 11 plate with a Peugeot warranty.

Not sure about the ground clearance thing but it doesn't sit that low.

Best of both worlds really, open top when you want it, a normal car when you don't.

How about a Hyundai Veloster? Suits your requirements and is quite different.

Does rarity really matter when both cars are pretty much identical? Besides, it's not like either of them are common. I can count the amount of GT86/BRZs I've seen on the road since release almost on one hand.

Glad you enjoy yours though. Same story over here and I came from a car with much less power than an Impreza smile

350Z ride quality is appalling.

RX-8 would be good but for the fuel economy criterion.

GT86/BRZ sounds like a good shout.
