I would imagine the Top Gear journo saw one width, then another with mirrors and is comparing eggs and bacon. Not eggs and eggs.

Though despite the 570S being Woking's cheapest, least powerful model, it's actually 18mm longer and 187mm wider than a 650S.
Quite a bit larger! Doh!
They (top gear) are mixing up with and without mirrors. the 650s with mirrors is 2093mm, which is more or less the same as the quoted width for the P13 at 2095 I think. Mclaren used to quote width without mirrors on the 12c and 650 (1905 or something) but haven't done so on the P13 it seems for whatever reason.
Correct.

I don't know precisely how wide the P13 is, but there is no way in this world that it is "187mm" (7 inches) wider than the 650S. That is either a typo or the person who wrote that for Top Gear knows even less about cars than their writers usually do.

Joe, you're reading the wrong stuff!
No change there.

The 570S is slightly larger than the 650S in each key dimension, being 4530mm long, 2095mm wide and 1202mm tall.
though their 650S article does not give those dimensions!

The McL site gives these for the 650S - 4512mm long, 2093mm wide (without mirrors I think), 1203mm high (spider).
Basically - bugger all in it.

No idea where TG got their numbers.

It seems the 570S can have DAB too - nice to know it's in their cheapest car, but not their most expensive.
2093mm would be with mirrors.

Would be rather neat to have a 650LM with a early 60's McLaren badge.
Depends on where you mean. I don't think it would work on the bonnet. On the back of the car, I agree, and there is one on the back of my P1.
I'd be thinking an enameled version on the rear for your 'run of the mill' McLarens OR incorporated in a subtle way onto each wing for the limited edition/race ones.
A bit of nod to the Scuderia shields and their use on race cars perhaps.

If that's all a bit too crass then the logo as a small badge in the centre top of the rear numberplate.

Anyhow I see MP4 12C's are creeping into my buying range so may have to put my money where my....er... fingers are.

Enamel shield on the back is what I have done.

IMO the 12C looks better than the 650 and 570. The 12C's front and rear designs are more integrated. The P1 front and rear designs are themselves integrated, but then they wanted to link the future cars (650 and 570) to the P1, so they took the front of the P1 and bolted it onto the 12C to create the 650, which perhaps was not ideal. I've not seen the 570 in the flesh, only in the recent photos, and I was disappointed, to be honest. I think the various Caymans are better looking.

Are Dymag still in busines?

Out of curiosity, do you know what one of your CF wheels weighs?
Actually, the low weight was my reason for buying them. Upon delivery I had them on my imprecise bath scale.

Front wheel is 8x18 and weighs 7 kg
Rear wheel is 10x18 and weighs 7,5 kg.

I dread the day I don't have these wheels any more. Dymag went bust shortly after my purchase, and to my knowledge, only the business of carbon race wheels for motorcycles has been carried on from the remnants.

Those Dymags are light.

The ones that I had made, mag centres, aluminium hats with Ti bolts, were
- 9.0x19 - 6.8 kg
- 12.5x19 - 8.25kg

Perhaps not unexpectedly being based around the same monocell carbon tub, it's almost exactly the same size as the P11 cars. A touch longer and the same width (2093mm with mirrors) and near as no difference height-wise, weight is very similar around ~1300kg dry as well if I have read correctly.

Personally think Mclaren are vastly over-using the same design language from the P1 and I was really hoping as was suggested to me by someone supposed to be in the know that Mclaren were dropping the headlight 'swoosh' from the P13 but it is merely morphed into a blockier variant of the P1 front....
After seeing them all in the flesh yesterday, the 570S looks so much better in person than any of the other cars in the range right now.

Really?

Having not seen the 570S, I could not say, although that is surprising judging only from the images of it.

It would be good if the car is nice looking - the world needs more nice looking cars, and fewer ugly lumps.

Having now seen a few 570Ss in the flesh, I can't say that they struck me as being particularly handsome.
Regarding the width issue, the 570S uses the same tub as the 650S, the thickness of the doors outboard of the tub are almost the same in both cars. If there is any difference in the overall body width of the two cars, it is, literally, marginal.

This rather sums up my own thoughts on the matter. It seems the company backed the wrong horse / design motif.

They don't seem to have a problem selling them.

This is good news, because I really wish the company - road car division and racing team - well.

I was lucky enough to have time to go up to NYC this past weekend to see the Auto Show. I have a new found respect for modern McLaren because of the following photo:

Yes that's me. Smiling so incredibly my face turned yellow and into the shape of a circle.

Not only did McLaren bring out all their current models to the show, and the F1 of course, but they let everyone in the booth and let them walk all around the cars. All of them. F1, P1 GTR, 675LT, etc.

You couldn't walk around the 918. You couldn't walk around the Rolls-Royces. You couldn't get anywhere near the Agera R or Veyron or Aventador or even the Huracan. You couldn't even get within 5 feet of the new Miata!! All of them behind ropes and glass walls.

Sure there was security at every corner making sure you didn't so much as rub against one of their cars, but being allowed that close, and being allowed to take photos of yourself with their cars was something special.

McLaren easily had the most popular booth at the show, and I'm sure made lots of peoples days. The little things sometimes. You know?

Quick post to show appreciation for keeping this topic open. A good mix of speculation and actual owner input makes this one stand out from the crowd and makes for great reading. I've been following it for a long time.

Thanks,
