Seen these before. I'd take the Ueno Clinic car.

Question to Flemke then.

What "memorabilia" or "model cars" or other McLaren/Porsche/an other accessories do you have? Or do you eschew such items since you can get the real item?
I too would take the Ueno model.

Apart from Ed Flemke-related memorabilia, I don't think I have much that is not personal to me or to the use of my own cars.
I have maybe 30-40 models, in 1/43 which to me is the only nice size, mostly of my favourite racing cars (Indy, Le Mans, Can-Am, old Formula One). I have an affinity for books and will normally get any that I like. There have been some absolutely stunning books about motorcars.

I guess I have most of the brochures that they did for the F1, all McLaren-related books, of course the F1 watch and tools, any magazine with an article on the F1.
For my other cars I don't bother getting something just for the sake of having it, but I make an exception for the F1, I suppose because I think it is still a beautiful and fascinating machine and anything about it is intrinsically interesting.

Sorry that I can't give you a more complete answer, but most all that stuff is currently in storage and I'm not sure of what there is.

I have never felt the need to own a model of a car I own and I suspect most supercar owners feel the same.

Memorabilia might be a different subject. It would need to be genuine, original and produced in very limited quantities and not an obvious piece of 'tat'.

PS. I could, of course, be wrong!
I know what you mean, Paul, but if you have a car that you really like and think is beautiful, but circumstances allow you to see it only occasionally, it can be nice to have nearby something to appreciate in its absence. smile

Many folks in all circumstances like to have models of cars they find are beautifully shaped, everyone from John Smith with his accurate model of his beloved Ford Focus, to Rupert Von Sluphasen and his much adored Bugatti 35. I remember Enzo Ferrari often had model cars on his desk. To admire as his engineers emplored him that round wheels were the way to go, that everyone else is using them..j

You needn't apologise. I realise I am asking you a relatively personal question, so thanks for replying.

I forget how fortunate I am to be able to walk 50 meters from my door to my 'toy store', which I do virtually every day.
I would love another home on The Italian Lakes, The Dordogne or Tuscany but I would miss the option to 'nip outside and tinker with something'.
I get a lot of pleasure out of making or fixing something myself. It is always a learning process and quite cathartic. I suspect a couple of weeks every 3 months would be all I could stand away from 'the shop'.

Out of intreast what brand of model cars do you collect? I'm a autoart person myself.

I reckon a man of Flemkes means wouldn't cheap out, so I imagine he buys the Buraggo models available at all good toy shops and more conveniently in the shops on cross channel ferries.

Isn't the problem often one of availability?

I've got a couple of CMC (stunning!), a few Exoto (pretty good) and quite a few bburago/minichamps/etc., purely cause they're the only companies with the licence for the car I want.

Of course, chaps like Amalgam seem to be able to get the licence for pretty much whatever they want to build, but they're too rich for my blood!

As Sway says, it's a matter of what is available.

Although like most sentient people I can see differences in build quality, if I buy a model it will be because I value the memory of that car, rather than because the model itself is particularly well done. If the model is particularly badly done, I might pass, but it's not like one usually can be too choosy about who the maker is.

Understandable. I wanted a uno f1 GTR from autoart due to the quality and price but I had to settle for minichamps instead.

I have a Bburago model of a racing 964 that was bought for me from a toy shop in Majorca when I was little. Sentimentality is more important than the details (or lack thereof). Even if I had endless money there are cars I deeply admire but would not want to own, so having a little scaled-down version is a nice thing if you enjoy design.

I also had a Scalextric XJ220 with working headlights. It wasn't until many years later that I realised that Scalextric isn't cheap and my parents didn't have much cash at the time but still wanted to get me something I loved for Christmas. PH: soppy memories matter!

Flemke were you ever officially told about the 675lt spider? Shmee says in one of his videos that he put his order in for one in May of 2015!

It was one of those things where, if you had heard only rumours, you could act on them because you didn't know for a fact but, if you knew it for a fact because someone on the inside had told you, your hands were tied and you had to stay quiet.

It didn't matter either way. If I had wanted a spider, after they made the announcement I could have put my name down and they would have given me a slot. That was never an issue.

As it was, I waited for the official announcement, then told them that I would take one, but, because of how McLaren had misbehaved in the 675LT coupe-only situation ("Oops, we forgot to mention the 500 spiders!"), I would do so with the explicit understanding that, as soon as I got it, I would flip it and give the profits to charity. On that basis, they seem to have decided that they won't give me one. That is fine, but I wish they would not give cars ever to the scum who make a regular practice of flipping them.

Prindiville, Alastair Bols, et al - why do I often see them with "new", "delivery miles" cars for sale?

F1 models. When I worked at Ricardos in Leamington Spa, there was a 1/4 scale model of a F1 in the foyer. I was told only 8 of these were made, and companies that did work on the F1 were presented with them.

Agreed, that's pretty cool, and 1 of 8 makes it damn rare, I wonder what its worth
