Flemke - Is this your McLaren? (Vol 5)

The silver one was also featured in Evo vs Veyron (sort of), recognized it from the tyres, which are god awful Michelins (can't remember the name) that I also had a misfortune to have. They look like tractor threads.
Is that definitely the same car? A lot of F1s were silver, and those Michelins are those only tyres made for the F1 since the late '90s.flemke said:

I'm definitely no expert on F1's, but that looks virtually the same. That and blackened exhaust tips. The plate at the time was N884 PWV, I've looked up on my copy. I also recalled the tyres, those are Michelin Pilot SX (at first confused that with another monstrosity, the TRX). From what I remember they are winter-tyre heavy and thick, noisy and can't help even in the middlest of corners. Simply a truck-type. Can't believe McLaren let it's customers to have those.

I stopped using the factory tyres in about 2004 but, AFAIK, Michelin have only ever made one tyre for the F1. Getting Michelin to make even that one required McLaren to do a lot of persuading. Because of the tiny numbers being sold each year, Michelin wanted to cease production, which would have been a slight problem for F1 owners.
Flemke, sorry if this has been asked before, but I wonder if you have ever owned/driven/seen a XJR-15
The reason I asked is I stumbled across an old top gear with Tiff in one and I was drawn to make comparisons with the F1's looks (the video was somewhat grainy), and engine, but then handling wise it seemed awful in comparison.

I have seen a couple, not been in one. The reason I asked is I stumbled across an old top gear with Tiff in one and I was drawn to make comparisons with the F1's looks (the video was somewhat grainy), and engine, but then handling wise it seemed awful in comparison.
Occasionally the thought has crossed my mind, but never more than that. For one thing, I figured that, having an F1, what would be the point of having an XJR-15.
For another thing, I know people who were shafted by Tom Walkinshaw, and on principle I have wanted to stay away from anything that came from his operation.
Finally, how could one abide this:
Sure, one could always get another steering wheel, but the initial impression is so awful that PTSD is a likely result.

That really is an acquired taste isn't it, I hadn't realised! Thanks for your insight, any ideas if they are as lairy as the clips I've seen would suggest?Occasionally the thought has crossed my mind, but never more than that. That's fine, but might be helpful if you were at least to share with us to which you can't agree.
Thanks, IMO the Mclaren is not the best car of all time, "Friends" is not the worst show of all time and therefore, with no disrespect to you, the juxtaposition is not that interesting.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
