Additionally, as a UK-based driver, I can assure you that operating a gear lever with my right hand would be anything other than intuitive!
i left the uk 5 yrs ago and LHD/ RH shift is much more intuitive. each time i come back to blighty i eed up getting in the passenger side of the hire car, grasping at the door pocket for the shifter and even driving the wrong way down the carriageway as i exit the airport!
Im not so sure.

Reverse can be a touch tricky to find.
In a Wrangler.
In an underground carpark.
With a trailer.
On a ramp.
With the trailer ramps embedded in the ceiling.

Thank you for your explanation of what makes a great car. I cannot dispute your logic, although my criteria and thus my conclusions differ.
How much greater do you regard the F1 over the Rocket or are they such different beast that comparison is not really relevant?

Comparing the Rocket with the F1 is like comparing a sketch with a finished painting by the same artist. They derive from the same mentality and values, they can be equally good or great for what they are, but the painting is deeper, richer, more complex and a bigger challenge both to the artist and to the observer.

Excellent analogy, that one. clap

Sorry, I don't try to keep track of the individual cars unless I happen to remember something.
All I know is that he bought one F1, kept it for a short time and sold it, then more recently bought another.

No, that's chassis #006. Used to be silver and was in Japan, now in that astounding collection in Bahrain.

The one Evans has reportedly bought is from the Brunei collection, chassis #005.

He has ridden in my car but declined my offer to drive it. In declining the offer, he said that he didn't like the responsibility of driving someone else's car. I don't know whether that sentiment might have been related to the fact that, an hour previously, he was driving someone's Carrera GT on a track and managed to spin it on his out-lap. wink

As a passenger, he did comment that my car seemed to have a lot of power and a stable chassis. This was before I had changed the brakes.

Saying that, although he says he is happy for people to alter their F1s in whatever ways they see fit, it is a fact that I have taken my car away from the comfy, cross-country GT concept that was essential to his project.
I think when I visit my mother later today I'll just have to sit down and read this thread from the beginning and then go to the other threads. I just had a chance to glance from page 123? to this point and going to go in a few directions as usual but all based on content here.

Well some of your posts answered two of my questions, one being why have the cars when you are not driving them. I told you already that you need to find time to enjoy your rides. Cut 15 minutes here a little there and just say no to people if you're a softy as I am at times. Well anyway.... I had deja-vu there for a second reading your post. I'll be a SOB because I would have stated the same thing if you asked me to drive your F1. wink

I like this Murray chap but I never met him. Crossed paths but not worth mentioning. Does he often spin-out?

Coco, Luigi Chinetti Jr. in my view had a reputation of spinning out on track. Almost 20 years older than I am so as I was just beginning to gain skill while NART was fading out. I never thought of it this way but being behind him I think it made me more decisive to make that split second move to pass people. I use to joke you get stuck behind him and he's "gonna" spin right in front of you. Maybe this site is more supportive of Murray because all those posts elsewhere no one seems interested in.

918: I always give a cold shoulder towards the Porsche guys, just too many of my guys into them but a fellow talked so much about the fun and sound on the Cobra site that I gave it a good ride. Ending up getting invited to participate in the two builds with my daughters. If you never read it well I break stuff. The 911R I posted about a little while back. I posted that one auction and I think around $200K over sticker now but that will decrease because of the number available has increased. Oh the 918 is a riot to drive it just pulls you out of the corners. I think psychologically I enjoy a car that needs to be worked than one that does all the work for you. The younger guys just don't have the experience of driving different ranges of cars.

TVR- Just asked you about that one in fact. No need to answer save the time and I'll say one of my favorite Cobra sayings: "Put your ass in something fast" and go carve up some country roads.

Chinetti Sr, when he was located in Greenwich would never let anyone take a picture of his or a clients car. That always stuck with me especially when I left the service and started a high level protection company. Today with the Instant Gram & utubers it's really crazy. To me if I still owned that company I would state that these guys are a nuisance and pain in the ass. Even when in Brunei I saw the mechanics take pictures and complained about it just as I do today. I can talk all day about cars just like Leno does and when asked to take a picture no problem depending if my daughters are present. But then they want to take a picture of your dash and serial number and so on and so forth. Have to turn Brooklyn and say Get to F outta here. It's not the pictures but the rampant abuse of names associated with a particular car and the serious lack of discretion.

Concerning F1 LM#5 There was a picture of it in front of the palace a short distance from the garages if you know that compound. I don't believe it was identified and might have had a flat tire. It was given to the young daughter and sat outside for a long long time. I always thought that this was the one that McLaren wanted back because it was not driven but then I forgot about the duplicate Le Mans winning car. That is most likely the one that they wanted. Also one of the cars I did say looked like it went through a sandstorm but I never continued on that and meant to say I saw it from far away and when I moved closer I guess maybe it was pulled to the side of the road and kicked all this dirt onto the body. Sort of like getting stuck in the mud and trying to get out. I guess the Mexican F1 that Peloton mentioned is the one in the NY Times article which I did not read. I would just ask some counter parts in their military and see if there's any intel on it. At some point there will be a gram of intel.

Oh you should have tried an original testarossa, not that cheese grater excuse of a car.

Are there any cars that you would like to try, not necessarily own but give a good try out on?

The chap in the video, Dan Kennedy, sold the car many years ago.

frown Sad times.

Related to the magnificent V12: How much input does BMW have with the regular maintenance of the engine? Is it all done in house at McLaren or does it ever have to be sent back to BMW? What about when it comes to more in depth work or major engine rebuilds?
