If you could travel back in time to 1990 and take a new car back to 2014 to run as your daily drive, what would it be? Please feel free to post pics.

Note: running costs are down to you, so you will be paying today's parts and petrol prices and labour rates.

E36 325i (august 1990 according to wikipedia)

I just have a soft spot for the E36, so to drive a new one without rusty arches and wobbly suspension would make me so happy.

today it would be a Nissan 300zx, as i saw one over the weekend and had forgotten just what a great looking machine they were.

I often wonder if someone somewhere has preserved a brand new, undriven, showroom condition Regular Joe car from 20/30 years ago?

I'd like to say I'd go for a Lexus LS400 (I remember wanting the one they restored on Wheeler Dealers... lol) but not sure about the costs? If we're being realistic... probably an Accord? I dunno, just guessing it would be a lot cheaper to look after these days if I'm honest.

My FIL has one, I've known him about 7 years and it's not been driven once in that time.

Drove this as a daily for 50k miles when it was fairly old and high mileage and it was superb even then, so I would happily drive it new as a daily today...

None of this going back lark. Some of us still do run a 1990 car as a daily. Just passed another MOT without any advisories and should pass 250,000 in the next month or so.
Can't fault it really, quick, comfortable, surprisingly practical and it still looks good.

If we're talking normal cars (like an Accord), then I would probably go for a Cavalier GSi2000 or a Sierra XR4x4. The lure of a Cosworth is strong though!

Mg maestro turbo.
No other reason than I once went in a 2.0i and it was so over powered for such awful chassis, brakes and suspension
It was quite hilarious. I imagine the turbo to be downright lethal!?

And a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth for when it inevitably falls apart/ blows up/ rots away! biggrin

If this could be stretched a year to 1991..

This is my current daily drive, a 1991 Sierra Laser. Ideally I'd like one with a higher spec, but this car is just so dam reliable I cannot fault it at all! This picture was taken today after I gave it a bit of love with a polish.

Sapphire Cosworth.

3dr Cosworths weren't being built in 1990.

Yes. A Ford Cortina GL (fair warning, it's the Daily Mail). There are also abandoned cars with delivery mileage in a disputed area belonging to either Cyprus or Turkey.

Just like a couple of the other responses, I'd probably go for a Sierra though I'm not sure which trim level. I'd probably aim for a GLX, GLS or Ghia. Might as well get the best 1990 had to offer.
