What new car from 1990 would you run as a DD?
Discussion
Loving this thread, the best on PH for a long time! However, it's got me all confused, and I've changed my mind yet again
So I've cancelled the orders on the Golf Limited and the 900 T16S, stopped my Cellnet mobile phone contract (they were never going to catch on in hindsight), and sold my huge stock of (nearly worthless) Apple shares to put a deposit down on this instead
I have a feeling Alpine is now ready to take on the world and is destined for greatness. With Porsche and Lotus close to folding, surely the French are about to dominate the sportscar market in the 90s and beyond?:

The thread's about time travelling; why the fk would realism be on the agenda?
OK. For my daily drive I'll have an A Team Van.... that can fly... in space... with laser cannons.Otherwise, stop being a fking mook.

However, a mint V6 Sierra estate would still make me happier as a daily than anything else in the whole wide world.

enough with the F40 already, just aim slightly higher than a boggo Ford
we could just copy and paste the actual sales charts from 1990 if we wanted to be that dull
It wasn't boggo! If I wanted boggo I'd go for a CVH for my daily drive until 2016 (at which point it'd start to consume similar levels of oil to petrol). It was, in fact, a limited edition V6 4x4 Ghia Estate with RS trim. You'd be the talk of the middle management bi monthly sales meeting with that little bad boy in the car park.we could just copy and paste the actual sales charts from 1990 if we wanted to be that dull
No accounting for taste now is there? Some people might even find a TVR very nicely complements their Toupee and driving gloves

One of these...
Fitted with one of these...
I had a friend who had an Estelle many years back. It was a much nicer car than many on PH seem to think. Fitted with one of these...
It didn't have a 911 engine though - that would be quite an experience!

I would have my 1990-built (but in this particular case not registered until 1991) 944 Turbo, the 250hp model (somewhat more than that these days).
And as I would have to wave goodbye to my 2000-built BMW E39 530i I would have an E34 M5 instead for when I need extra back seat room and luggage space.
And if I can have a little city car as well, then a 205GTI 1.9 please, in blue, no sunroof.

aarondbs, I LOVE both choices
Since we are on the subject of big cars, I wouldn't mind a 1990 Cadillac Brougham DeElegance:
Or a 1990 Citroën XM:

Seriously though, about the F40.... I think going straight for the super cars is rather unimaginative, really (as good as the car is) its the choice of the man who pretends he's into cars when really is interest is only skin deep. Also the thread would be over in 2 pages if everyone chimed in with F40 or Diablo or Nazca C2 (technically a 93 car). I have enjoyed looking at the wide selection shown in this thread, it shows proper petrolheadedness and car appreciation.

Probably the last of the Series 3 V12 (probably one of the last built too as I think the XJ40 was launched in 1990
or maybe a v12 XJS Convertible
Im only around the corner from work , so i could live with the fuel bills and use my '89 Daimler Double Six as a "daily" - it's a 36k minter so drives like one would have done when maybe three years old.or maybe a v12 XJS Convertible
In terms of performance, comfort and refinement. it's eminently usable - even today - but the XJ's were always ahead of their time.
I dont use it as a daily , but i do manage to lift the cover and sneak a look at it most days - and it is rather handsome .
