Im only around the corner from work , so i could live with the fuel bills and use my '89 Daimler Double Six as a "daily" - it's a 36k minter so drives like one would have done when maybe three years old.
In terms of performance, comfort and refinement. it's eminently usable - even today - but the XJ's were always ahead of their time.
I dont use it as a daily , but i do manage to lift the cover and sneak a look at it most days - and it is rather handsome .

aarondbs, I LOVE both choices
Since we are on the subject of big cars, I wouldn't mind a 1990 Cadillac Brougham DeElegance:
Or a 1990 Citroën XM:

Seriously though, about the F40.... I think going straight for the super cars is rather unimaginative, really (as good as the car is) its the choice of the man who pretends he's into cars when really is interest is only skin deep. Also the thread would be over in 2 pages if everyone chimed in with F40 or Diablo or Nazca C2 (technically a 93 car). I have enjoyed looking at the wide selection shown in this thread, it shows proper petrolheadedness and car appreciation.
To say that choosing an F40 means an interest in cars is only skin deep is somewhat 'insulting' (can you get insulted by a random on the internet - no not at all). I think picking all these 'everyday cars' whilst wistful it is somewhat rose tinted - I grew up driving/owning Ford Orions, Rover 214's and at Montego's and they're not exactly desirable to drive - they werent great then but now they would just be comically bad.
If your mate turned up in one you'd laugh and be like 'lets have a drive' in some sort of reminisce but you'd get out entertained after 30 minutes but glad to be back in your modern car with all that that brings.
Whilst it may be PH 'cool' to appear like an everyman its very much like when someone says 'who's Justin Bieber, never heard of him' like being not in the know is the equivalent to being in the know.
This thread is a ridiculous fantasy of time travel so i'll take my F40 as my chosen Daily Driver thank you very much as I am guessing it is much better drive than a Volvo 740 or Rover 820 (Si, nice spec but i'd take a Sterling thanks...).

I'm pretty sure these didn't come out until 1991. I've seen them on J-plates but were any registered on H-plates? Posted in the spirit of the thread though, so I'll let it slide
Some were registered on H plates - as they came out in April 1991 in rhd (I still remember reading the auto express initial Uk drive type road test of a 318).ANY right hand drive Uk 3 series in 1990 would have been an E30
You probably wouldn't have wanted an early E36 anyway - as from memory they had some quality issues early on.
On the rest of the thread - not sure why people are put out about Montego Turbos and Sierras (non cosworth), VW estates and Mk 4 Escorts been nominated as preferred choices for daily drivers from 1990.
The thing is - been a car enthusiast DOESN'T have to mean loving Porsches, it doesn't have to mean hating a Ford Sierra 1.6.
