When asked for an opinion you declined, hence my interpretation.

Dom came in and tried to act all high and mighty, then bailed and made the videos private, it didn't save him any embarrassment. I downloaded the videos and sent them to Chiswick along with a link to this thread.

You have done nothing to upset me, it's just slime balls in general upset me. Somebody used the term 'utter Gareth' which seemed fitting.

Aaaaaaaaaanyway if you want to keep posting please do, I'll play ball, every new post keeps the thread on page 1 of General gassing so...
I'm sorry, when did I 'try to act all high and mighty'? When did I bail?

So you've admitted to copyright infringement, and shared them, thanks.

I have asked numerous Observers, Examiners, and Staff Examiners over the last few years and none could give a better method than what I currently do, and agreed that out of everything I've tried this is the best for this circumstance.

I would stop on the road before the driveway, so the car behind you is in the place you want them to stay while you back in. Proceed to stick your arm and/or head out the window to signal to the driver behind that you plan on reversing into the driveway. Once both parties are on the same page, proceed to pull up and then reverse in.

Getting irate at other drivers for not foreseeing that you will enact an uncommon driving maneuver on a busy road is not productive. You have more tools than your brakelights and reverse signal in your communication arsenal. It is why it is appropriate to signal to pedestrians with a wave to let them know you see them and are letting them cross the road.

Ensuring the other party understands your intent is part of road use. It is your responsibility to ensure communication has been received and understood, as you are the one wishing to do the unexpected. A pause to check and see whether the other driver understands is the difference between initiating an accident and being safe.

Blaming the average driver for not leaving you space is like a pro footballer playing in a gradeschool scrimage and getting upset the passes are not on the mark.

Just a very brief observation why I never took it further with the Chesterfield group.

A demonstration drive which included an overtake of a tractor and trailer just before a field entrance on the right where the road was covered in plenty of evidence that the entrance had been recently used. Generally far too much emphasis on progress over all else.

When asked what thought about it commented that breath held on that not even marginal overtake.

Response amounted to not much more than what the funk do you know.

Had at that point to give notice of AD qualifications through job.

No names no packdrill but unimpressed. Was prepared to become observer and help but no thanks.

Doesn't sound clever - perhaps that observer wasn't one of the best...there are a few that I've come across who aren't great but there are plenty that are good and the IAM is making real efforts to improve consistency across groups.

I find your posts really quite unnecessarily personal and aggressive - do you always post in such a manner or is it just me?

My original post on this thread wasn't actually aimed at you but you seem to have taken it upon yourself to instigate a defence of those that want to disparage advanced driving in general and the IAM specifically. I don't understand why you would do this.

I stand by my original post and it wasn't aimed at one individual (you or otherwise) - I think perhaps you may have misunderstood in which case, my apologies.

My experience of the IAM is perhaps very different to yours - it's far from perfect but it does have loads of good people within from all backgrounds and driving/riding all sorts of vehicles, doing great training/coaching with enthusiasm and skill. I think this needs to be pointed out sometimes that's all.

Happy to acknowledge back-pats then dom!

With regards to your question, you bailed out yesterday as soon as you saw that your excuses were getting you nowhere, you remember, pretty much as soon as your 'drop the attitude fella' comment was met with a similar rebuke, pretty much straight after you removed the YT content, although you were showing online at ADUK, that's a bail in my book.

Do you have a copyright issue over a YT partner downloading those vids? Shame you didn't consider those drivers' right to privacy when you published their registration details. Mind you, you didn't mind showing where you lived, was that a little daft too perhaps?

I did stick up for you though, over the 'golf tyre squeak' vid, anyone who owns a Fiat Punto has every right to be jealous of a Golf.

Someone else described you as 'an utter Gareth' and some people didn't know what that meant, an 'utter Gareth' is a PH generic term meaning 'total whatsit'.

I'd climb down from the moral high-ground if it were me, the more the thread is updated the longer it stays on page 1 of General gassing.

I haven't insulted you, no need, the complete embarrassment of those videos is enough for me.

If it makes you feel any better I didn't seek those videos out, I found the Land Rover one when searching on YT for Land Rover videos.

Best of luck dom, you are by no means the only person who brings the IAM name into disrepute online, sorry if this has hurt your pride but sometimes the 'holier than thou' need taking down a peg or two.

Whilst it may not be a IAM approved method would it not make more sense to put your hazard warning lights on as you are just short of your drive and then put an angle on your car. Seeing this most people would hopefully assume you are about to make a manouvre and give you some space while they found out what that manouvre was.
By indicating left surely what you are telegraphing to the following vehicle is that you are about to either turn left or to stop at the side of the road, most likely what I would be expecting if following you when you indicated any way.
Not being a member of the IAM this may be a cardinal sin in their eyes but to me seems a more logical approach. Might not work with all drivers who follow you but would expect a better success rate than the current way.

As the videos have now been removed I can't check but when viewing them the other day thought both drivers had left sufficient space to comfortably manouvre around what they probably thought was a vehicle stopping on the side of the road.

I'll acknowledge anyone that's civil.

Forum software doesn't have a great reputation when it comes to showing when someone is online, I stay logged in 24/7 but it doesn't meet I'm reading.

When you are in public you don't have privacy, sadly. But when my videos are downloaded, for whatever purpose without prior consent yes I do have an issue.

And that isn't provocative and insulting?

I didn't know that, thanks for the explanation.

I'm not on a moral high-ground, I realise now that uploading vids of others is widely frowned upon, and is a sure way to upset some people. Personally I enjoy watching that type of video.

Consider the taking down a peg or two done, none of us are perfect, we all learn new things every day. Today is a day I have done.

My experience of the IAM is that it was sound. It's the 'utter Gareths' who represent it online that are the problem.

My problem is you slagged me over not knowing what AD is, when in actual fact I have IAM and RoADAR certificates. Too quick to wade in without knowing who your dealing with see?

Out of curiosity why are you jumping to that person's defense?

What he did was completely reprehensible, he went about his manouvre in a completely ambiguous, very aggressive way, and then blamed the other drivers to the point of humiliating them on YT, I'd give odds you patted him on the back for it, now the tables are turned and this has been exposed for what it is, why not admit it for what it was and move on?

I know pals stick together and look after one another but at what price? You aren't doing yourself any favours and more importantly you aren't helping the public perception of the IAM much either.

I can see your idea but what exactly would you signal with your arm?

In the UK that would be a learner test failure - the examiner's don't like any waving or encouragement to others as it implies you are taking responsibility for their safety and also can be misinterpreted by others it is not intended for.

In less than the time it took me to type the correct message on that there would have been a suitable gap or probably 3 for me to have managed to reverse into my drive anyway LOL

This made hilarious reading over breakfast.

Where did the OP's "do you know who I am, I challenged you to a drive off once" post go? I thought that really spiced things up and shouldn't have been deleted.

Anyway, as an impartial observer my opinion is as follows:

- Yes it is pretty odd/sad to video yourself reversing and post it on the internet and yes it is worse when you are probably wrong about it.

- Perhaps by virtue of the fact it was incorrect it is worth commenting on but the OP has got a little too into it. The OP comes off as if he has a enormous chip on his shoulder.

P.S what is a 'drive off'? Is it like in Ali G where they go side by side at exactly 30mph?

I am not a 'pal' of Dom - what gives you that idea? To repeat, I didn't comment on the video because I thought Dom would answer for himself (which indeed he did) - and before you suggest I put him up to it, I can assure you, you are wrong.

Sorry but I still don't get where your personal aggressiveness is coming from...perhaps that's your style of forum posting?

Good to see Dom has offered an olive leaf though.
