That is what pisses me off about PH, you have nailed it. Many of the sheep here, seem to have a faux image of all German badges being superior in everyway, diesel is king and other models from Ford, Vauxhall, Renault etc are Halfords, chav etc. Turns up in every thread, on this forum.
errrm you have that bit spectacularly wrong when it comes to PHirocfan said:

errrm you have that bit spectacularly wrong when it comes to PHi was on a thread earlier where a guy wanted a V8 4x4 and someone seriously said he should buy a huyundia i10 for the small miles he would do.

So, the spec, in the US that really is base spec, use a key to open it, no AC, no side airbags etc.... everything is optional.
I wish they'd do the same here because I don't particularly want any of those things. It mildly annoys me how in the UK we're forced to pay for features that we don't want because they're standard equipment. Prawnboy said:

Take one chav in a Barried 1.4 Corsa and compare to one adult in a 320D and it is very clear as to who has fked up in life. And it's not the spaz pissing his money away in Halfords.
exhibit A. BTW what the hell is a donkey apple; sounds hilarious.
not sure he has, every thread i read recently when someone asks suggest me a car it's always a bloody diesel beemer everyone suggests.

Except it's not true.
So if, say, I want to buy a two door sports saloon with >400bhp with no air con, central locking, electric windows, electric seats, integrated sat nav, million speaker sound system, side air-bags, etc. for a reasonable price, who will sell me one?kambites said:

The problem is that the market is so small for a car like that that it is not worth their while to even consider making it. You are better off buying an older car with none of the kit that you don't want and then sticking a crate V8, appropriate trans and rear end in it.
That's always an option, but doing that I'd lose a load of the features of modern cars that I do want. Obviously manufacturers are producing what sells and I can't fault them for that. It's just a shame that I don't like any of it.
But back to the bare bones muscle car idea. I really fancied the new Dodge Charger until I saw the interior. Decked out like a copy of a high end Japanese car. Buttons everywhere even on the steering wheel and a huge infotainment/Sat Nav screen. Totally ruins the feel of the car, I think.
The body, engine and looks of a 2011 Dodge Charger/Ford Mustang/Chevy Camaro but with the interior of my '98 E36 BMW and I would be happy.
And like I said earlier, even manual windows would be good. The power windows in my Beemer have been the only things to have gone wrong in nearly 16 years of ownership and are a bugger/cost a fortune to fix.
My 2000 Mercury is pretty bare bones considering it's a luxury Ford but it does have an 8 way adjustable power seat. First hour of ownership I played with it to get comfortable and now it doesn't get touched. What's wrong with a couple of levers like my BMW.

I like a lot of the modern tech, it's brilliant but like British stereos v Japanese, real intelligence comes from making it unobtrusive.
And then there are thinks like electric seats or windows or boot openers etc that I'd quite happily do without.
All a perfect cars needs is a small selection of beautifully aesthetic and tactile buttons/knobs and bury the rest.
But we are clearly the minority and non commercial. Especially as these gadgets are used to upsell and capture higher finance revenues and also monetise the after sales income stream.

Respectfully, I disagree with this - though not to everyone's taste, I think the interior and exterior of the Mustang, Charger and Camaro are fairly well synched.Edited by croyde on Thursday 21st August 09:43
This is the innards of my 5.0 Mustang Premium - aside from the door caps, which are hard plastic, everything else is where it should be, works properly and fits nicely without any squeaks, gronks or failures (aside from the drivers seat fore/aft motor, which was a pretty easy warranty fix).

I agree. I know most people love them, but perhaps the odd 7-series aside, I've found the interiors of the vast majority of BMWs to range from instantly forgettable to absolutely horrible places to sit.
I'm sure diesel punters find them very exciting though. If take that Mustang interior over 1-5 series. Plus, Septic interiors are usually easier to have retrimmed in real leather.
Matt, you are disagreeing with what I said but I did say that the interior of my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis is well put together and doesn't creak, groan or rattle just like my BMW, normally the yard stick for car interiors, well up to 1998 that is
I like your Mustang interior but having been in a 2011 Charger and a 2011 Camaro, I have to say that their interiors come nowhere near your car and that I'd rather have my E36 as the benchmark or the pic posted above.
People see my car and I see out of it but, unless I'm parked, I don't really notice the interior so plain and simple is nice especially if it saves me money. As for toys, again I play with them for a bit when first purchased then I prefer to just drive.

Are you nuts? It's a BMW man the last word in...........oh, hang on a moment.
I had a 540i some years ago. It had everything on it from electric Arab blinds to leather that actually came from a cow rather than the current dad of painting bin liners with a thin layer of cow remnants. It drove well. Had a lively engine. Was a nice car. But fk me had they glued the fake, plastic wood in the strangest of places.
