Well I've been sat in my office this afternoon and there has been quite a lot of interest in the car this afternoon. We also have a white one which is going to be our Demo car and it's been viewed a few times this afternoon.

Mrs F , I take it you work for a Citroen dealer? Will discounts be readily available from the start on the Cactus? I intend to buy one but not sure if it's best to wait a few months. Any thoughts gratefully received

I shall send you a PM, but to answer your question in more detail. Yes we have a Citroen Main Dealer franchise. It's one of 5 brands we sell and I'm responsible for the Business Centre.

Demand and Supply I suspect will be quite a factor for quite some time if the initial interest in our showroom is anything to go by. A bit like the C1 which is proving to be quite a hit.

Typical Citroen then.

We had a gentleman arrive this week in a lovely high spec 14 plate A3, I think it was 3 months old. I'm not sure which car he's P/Xing it for but it's one of DS range.

People who have not owned recent ones mostly.

Ps sat in a McDonald's in Calais after 3000 faultless hard , long miles in a car with 140k plus miles on it. Seen plenty of stricken cars on my trip don't recal any French ones. A Volvo a Porsche and a couple of passats. It's been up the stelvio and smashed down autobarnes

Not sure how much more reliable you can get. As I said above French cars have been more reliable than any others we have owned. Including honda of which I have owned 5.

Tom, the Cactus has been added to the system so Rane will be contacting you to talk about your annual mileage.

Drove past Citroen today and saw a yellow one.

Pretty funky looking, not as 'safe' looking as competitors but I'm sure it will have plenty of fans!!

We were looking at stocks today for customers and there aren't huge numbers available, indeed I'm sure I heard that they aren't building petrol cars for the time being.

Wouldn't have one myself but I am a bit of a fan of how these look. First saw one a few months back on the way down to Le Mans and couldn't work out what it was!

A little update is that the Cactus is now available on Contract Hire from Citroen. The rates look particularly good.

If you feel you need to defend your choice of car, you probably should have bought something else.

Nobody has denied that recent Citroens have come a long way from those of 15 years ago, in terms of looks. They are attractive with all their mod-cons and cheap, cheap pricing but there is a reason prestige cars cost so much - its because to make sure all the mod-cons work and work well for a long time, they can't be thrown together using inferior components and chucked in just to make a headline sales piece.

I used to run a 2001 BMW 728i with over 100k miles. I paid £5000 for it. Everything worked perfectly (except the TV which was analogue). It never let me down, nothing broker or failed to work, no trim fell off. There wasn't even a squeak, rattle, bang or clunk ever heard over the next 20k odd miles it racked up in my ownership, when it then was sold for £4000. If your Citroen can do the same at that age & mileage, and still hold it's value to the same degree then I'll take it all back. The fact is, it won't.

You pays your money....
I've owned a series of BMW cars now and while I love them, they've been plagued with quality issues. I think you're looking at quality of the past which is certainly not quality of the present. You're also doing the classic thing of comparing an old used car with a new one. Of course depreciation rates will be different.

On the contrary, I've owned fiats, renaults, fords that have given me less issues (and less pleasure mind) than my BMWs.

I'm keeping my current BMW as the depreciation has been severe. I'm interested in taking on the cactus though as a second more practical car.

Lovely Z Gary.

I had a Z4C 3.0si so I know what you mean about depreciation on them. I was thankful that it had to be bought back by BMW in the end due to electrical problems. I say thankful because when I asked for a trade in value (admittedly only a few months after purchase), it was only of the worst purchases I'd made.

Bought back because of electrical problems?

Surely not. French cars are the unreliable ones supposedly and everything out if the fatherland is unbreakable and over engineered.
