RE: Citroen C4 Cactus: Review
Discussion
If this thread proves anything, it's that Citroen UK have made a massive error in speccing a £13k car up to £20k to loan to the motoring press, as clearly most people have not bothered to look at the base price figure before deeming this too expensive.
A VW Up! can be specced above £14k, however the vast majority of people will be buying one a lot closer to the £8.5k list price, or even more likely buying a Seat/Skoda variant for just over half the price of that headline £14k figure.

Is having a door opened on to your car in a super market such a common occurrence that they needed to design protection against it?
Perhaps I'm just lucky but in 13 years of driving it's never happened to any of my cars or vans. Nor has it happened to my parents or my sisters cars.
You are lucky. It's happened to a few of my cars whilst I was around.Perhaps I'm just lucky but in 13 years of driving it's never happened to any of my cars or vans. Nor has it happened to my parents or my sisters cars.
My OH's brand new Fiat 500 was bumper clouted 24 hours or so after she'd picked it up - and after I told her to park it out of the way.
Anyway, I've had a good look around the Cactus. It's nicely different, but I wouldn't part with 21k for one. If I was in the market for a minimalist, left of field motor I'd be looking at a poverty spec Dacia Duster.

Indeed, that's what I thought when reading this. The whole ethos behind the Cactus is its simplicity and Ikea pricing, so why put all the doodahs back in and end up at the price of a regular family car (albeit in this case one with rear windows that don't open and a foldable rear bench that doesn't split)?
As a far more funky, contemporary and likeable alternative to a Dacia family holdall, with a basic engine and equipment, it's absolutely brilliant. The tested version, however, doesn't seem to make any sense.

what a dreadful looking car! haven't seen anything like it,really looks like a teenager has stuck on a big patch over the doors.
this will be popular for about a year, then when it dates no one will want it.
Don't think so - seen lots of these on the Continent already - looks like the successor to the Matra Rancho, another oddball car that earned a cult following.this will be popular for about a year, then when it dates no one will want it.
It will appeal to those who like modern design. Those that want cars that look the same as everything else on the road won't be the target market anyway.

Maniac, There's no split folding rear sear option for the Cactus in the brochure at the link above...
Having said that, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
True.. just checked it again. I read that on a review somewhere. But again not a deal breaker for me anyhow. Cheap funky little runabout that you can knock about without it costing a fortune to fix. Works for me. All the people going urg and resisting are the I don't like different brigade.. which is a shame, because you miss out on a lot of interesting stuff in life looking through such narrow views.Having said that, it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
There was one of these in the pistonheads car park at Wilton (I'm guessing the very same one in the pictures).
I just loved the looks of it! I'm guessing its a marmite sort of car though, you'll either get it or you won't.
The fiat 500L looks similar in size and money, is hugely ugly but is seemingly very popular, I don't see why this can't succeed given the success of the DS3
I haven't had a good look round one yet but as the Family wagon on the daily M25 commute hack I would be very tempted.

I've only seen a couple of 500Ls that weren't hire cars and after driving one I can understand why. They're horrific.I like the Citroen, but agree with the comments here that say the cheaper it is, the more sense it makes.
