Mondeo ST-TDCI? Or just get a bigger turbo and a remap, keep a box of clutches handy and away you go.

A fast Honda diesel? Which one?
2.2cdti unit in civic and accord is surprisingly good, but not 'fast'.
Agreed. There are plenty of good diesels but the criteria was fast(est).

Given that the French pretty much started the diesel warm hatch trend it seems a real shame they don't seem to do anything interesting these day. I loved my ZX Volcane TD.

Easy.. You need to scrap your idea of no BMW's and get yourself a 125d.

It's not a big car, if that's why you didn't want a BMW, but I would say it is fast(ish).

Twin turbo 2 litre, 219 bhp and easily manages 50 mpg.

Ok I take that back, I'd only ever seen the 110bhp version and didn't know there was a 170. I quite like that.

Can you recommend a delicious cake for me? It has to be made of sand rather than flour and cannot contain any eggs, butter or any other cake ingredients.

Thanks.

p.s. No cake, either.

Fast diesel? What's the point? Fast diesel that isn't a BMW or Audi? Again, what's the point? It also doesn't exist.
A biscuit!

OP - I picked a quicker diesel hatchback than yours (a 125d) but in hindsight I wish I had a Leon FR. Cheaper, lighter, nearly as quick, more practical, better in wet weather, cheaper on car tax and a more refined engine.

Plus, when it comes to diesel 4-pots quicker does not equal more fun. I'd suggest getting something that stirs your soul is far more important than one that protects your wallet. Get a nice petrol hot hatch and pocket the difference as a fuel fund.

Or, if you really want to chase numbers, just get a tuning box for your Leon FR from Spider, Bluespark etc but all you'll have is a vehicle to transport your dissatisfaction around at a slightly higher pace.

125d only has a single turbo.

Not that the OP cares as it is too big and ostentatious for his and his customer's needs.

Not sure that it is, I know BMW have confused matters with its "twin power" turbo badging so everyone thinks they have 2 turbos, but the 25d cars are twin turbo IIRC.

No it isn't, it's the most powerful but not the quickest 5.5 to 62 and 186hp/tonne is bettered by quite a few others.

This excludes all BMWs so it therefore holds the crown.

Doesn't it have 450-550bhp?

Actually 493bhp wowsers

It's definitely a twin turbo.
