RE: Lotus Elise R testing at the Nordschleife
Wednesday 20th August 2014
"Don't even ask!" is the official Lotus response to the request for any comment on the car you see here. So we'll have to do some speculating.
Lotus Elise Cup R roadcar?
Looks like a race car but running with numberplates; just what is it?
It's an Elise, we can be sure of that. But the aero addenda is very new for an Elise, a roadgoing one at least. It will look familiar though if you remember the Elise S Cup Rfrom last year. The splitter, side skirts, rear spoiler and even the centre-exit exhaust are identical. Using some well-honed deduction skills we would therefore suggest this may be a roadgoing version of the Elise S Cup R. An Elise Trophy perhaps? Or could GT3 return?
Of course all this conjecture could be entirely inaccurate and it could be a Lotus mule for something different. Much is being made of the fact it lacks the track-spec battery cut-off and extinguisher buttons and, clearly, it is running plates and lights suggesting a degree of road worthiness. But would that aero really be acceptable for road homologation?
We'll have to wait and see, but with the Paris show just a few weeks away it might not be for too long. Until then all guesses, educated or otherwise, are most welcome.

Now that the Exige name is sitting with a six cylinder engine, there's maybe a hole perceived in the range for the trackday crowd where the old four cylinder supercharged Exige used to sit?
Not a very big hole admittedly, given you can still get that 1.8 supercharged engine in a new Elise, but maybe? Alternatively, new four cylinder engine for euro or US regs?

The new Exige has pushed it into a higher price bracket, and it's gotten pretty "serious" from a performance standpoint (not that the Exige wasn't a serious piece of kit anyway!). It's gone from being an Elise with aero to a whole new car, so it makes sense to fill the gap left with an Elise derivative.

"Addenda" is plural.
Agenda is singular. It is a list (i.e. one list) of a number of task/activities.The plural of Agenda is Agendas. It's an anglicised version of the Latin words Agendum (sing.) and Agenda (plur.), much the same way as "Opera" is the plural of "Opus" but the anglicised words are "Opera" and "Operas".

Yes, but the English language is full of exceptions. The plural of Agenda is Agendas. It's an anglicised version of the Latin words Agendum (sing.) and Agenda (plur.), much the same way as "Opera" is the plural of "Opus" but the anglicised words are "Opera" and "Operas".
Addendum
NOUN (plural addenda /-d?/)

Too many posts about the English language, get back to the car speculation.
+1This must have set a new record for %pedant posts
Back to the subject, a little more power for the standard supercharged engine (especially with an increase in peak revs) would be very interesting to me. Would certainly help me to keep the Exige itch under control

Sadly this is whats become of the brand.

If this ends up 100kg lighter than the current bloater, with a revised engine producing 250bhp it'll be very interesting. If it's neither lighter or more powerful, it will be a non-event.
Agreed, I think Lotus should think about consulting Omex, the chaps who did some work on the MG written about here recently:http://omextechnology.co.uk/page5.html
Proper old school engineering and tuning. Then, the engine would no longer simply be a bog standard Toyota unit, but a specially developed block for Lotus. Take off 100kg as you say, and result!
Can they be bothered?
I find it interesting that you never normally hear about Lotuses and the Nurburgring, whether that's people taking their own cars there or Lotus themselves....
Then again, that would explain why Lotuses have the world's best ride/handling compromise.
I would have thought Elises would be great and decently fast around the 'ring but I have never seen much mention of times etc.

what about the evora that was testing there last year? that became a non event ! this is probably more of the same without a different power plant. they cant get any more significant weight off that car imho.
