Good spot, hadn't noticed that. Mine is on 17s which I think actually suits the Mk5 better. I tried one on 18s but the diamond cut finish doesn't age well and they impact the ride quality/ NVH. However the Mk6/ Mk7 need the bigger wheels to fill the arches.
Mine's on 18s....I'm a tart.I think they've been refurbed at some point, but done well. and they've resisted white worm in the 3 years I've had the car.
I am approaching my 50's in a few years and would like Pistonheads or Evo to review a very special MK2 16v.
It heralds from the era of GTI Engineering and was built by Tim Stiles and was featured in a few mags of yesterday year.
Performance Car reviewed a similar car against a Fezza 308 and were very surprised at the xar's giant killing ability.
My car is a 1990 2 door example built using a balanced 2 litre 9a block, Schlick split duration cams altered Kjet Bosch metering head, Quaiffe diff, Sachs Super Sports clutch lightened flywheel rather list goes on. It is over 200bhp weighs 1050 kilos for track but runs an OE appearance for road.
It usually laps 1.20 at Combe on semi slicks Dunlop D01j's!
A real cult car that I cherish as it runs rings around more modern machinery.
Happy days!!
