..when are E46 M3 CSL values going to get really moving? With the latest M3 still slower around the ring, surely they might make take a big leap soon?
Worth noting that time was set on the Michelin Cups, so not quite fair on the car there. You are right though, CSL prices were going up quickly and have just sort of stopped.
100% agreed and if i had the cash i would buy it... f40 now over valued, f50 now up where it should be, SLR no thanks... CGT amazing....

And just to add my 2C to the original question; I don't know whether the 4.0RS is overvalued, but I'm absolutely convinced the CGT is undervalued. It's something very special indeed.
yellow and 50000 miles... dream on mate. as much as i loved my 996s... they were never keepers. its 42-47k at best

He bought that for 40k ish a couple of years ago - Everyone is trying it on! And the mileage isn't that low either...
I think an interest rate hike will affect these values much like property...

really... until of course porsche bring out the 15th different model in the line up - a 4.2l gt3 rsr 991...
the CGT has the 959 and 918 as its blood line... no panels lifted from another 911 model or shared windscreen or shared alloys... they are 1 off designs... I know where i would rather invest my money.
The real question is in the current daft market, why is the CGT so underpriced?

Perhaps someone who would prefer a GT3RS to a Carrera GT could explain why?
Utterly mystifying.
Perspective. On paper, in most categories there is no contest. But factor that 10 years from now the 4.0 will be worth £1m+ and there is your reason.Utterly mystifying.

Entirely agree. It is dealers like JZM and SCOM who are hiking prices ever higher. However is it me or has the air cooled 911 market slowed down of late?SidewaysSi said:

A year ago they were really motoring-3.2 Carreras went from late teens to late 20s/early 30s very quickly but they have hung at that level.
Likewise, 993 C2s don't seem to have continued to climb ever higher, much like CSLs mentioned previously.
Perhaps this is the peak? Property prices have also seemed to slow down in the last few months...
A 4.0RS is hardly a push over though isn't it?! Not exactly the last word in on-limit handling.
You used to see bent GT3RS at almost every track day and yet the CGT is the one with the reputation for being a bit of a handful!
I suppose there was some element of the CGT being overshadowed somewhat by the other hypercars of its era. For whatever reason the uber wealthy don't seem to think that Porsche can do hypercars very well. Whereas the 4.0RS is the unequivocal 'ultimate' of it's kind.
I'm still struggling with it though (£220k 964RS even more so) but even for those so enamoured of the whole beetle thing, a GT2RS has to be a whole load more fun though surely?

The Porsche world has gone utterly crazy, so many people sucked up and paying frankly stupid prices for 996/7 GT3's - the bubble must surely burst ....but as long as the European demand remains strong who knows ....

In the making? This particular bubble's been inflating for nearly 2 years now. Every time there's a financial glitch, people start looking for alternative asset classes to put their money into, and fine wine, classic cars and similar stuff experience a bubble. As soon as the financial markets pick up, those bubbles promptly collapse, and that's what will happen here. I've seen it before at least twice. I so wanted a 911 GT3 as a retirement present for myself, but they've bubbled beyond my reach, so I'm just going have to wait until the prices come down again. Which they will.

it is the ultimate 911 after all
Hmmmm.http://www.specialistcarsltd.co.uk/vehicle/porsche...
Yet just a couple of months ago, a UK Porsche specialist (Autofarm? Paul Stephens?) sold a minty 2.7RS for £500k without advertising it!
I've commented/complained in SOTW on this before (and surely will again, haha), but I find it curious and annoying that the model year of vehicles being talked about is not placed in articles. I assume this is a British thing because in the USA, it is something that would be stated in the very first sentence about any vehicle being discussed, i.e. 'This 2005 Ford...' or '98 Volvo S80'.
As to this car, at least it has the graphics on the side so I could go home and look it up if I saw one in the wild, but 911's don't do anything for me since they are so commonplace. My money would go with the CGT easily if I had the choice.

Not saying i disagree with what people are saying but bear in mind:
Carrera GT - 1270 made
GT3 RS 4.0 - 600 made
As said, i imagine if you can afford either, you can afford both. This story is inventing a dilemma for people that can afford neither.
so surely a 964 turbo cab should be worth 2million quid then..Carrera GT - 1270 made
GT3 RS 4.0 - 600 made
