Sneaking feeling that the miles will have to be kept low to keep the value whereas a CGT could be driven as intended with little consequence (assuming that you don't lose the thing at speed like Jay Leno or daddy Hamilton!)

Purely as an investment a very low miles RHD 4.0 will be blue chip.

As a car to own and drive however the CGT is in a different league IMO (says he who has driven neither hehe)

I'm sure many of you on here will know of Apollo 1 on here. He predicted that a 4.0 would be £500k before too long. I can't see them getting that high but if they do that's a clear sign that the car market has gone mad.

Abso-fecking-lutely!!! No contest, looks, engineering, value, sound, no contest in my opinion.
One is an absolutely top notch supercar the other a 911 (albeit the "best" and most desirable 911 ever made).

Every time these articles come out I am increasingly dumbfounded by the value some of these cars are attaining, yet there is no sign of this balloon bursting.

Wonder where it'll top out... My first thought was, "Damn, Harris should have kept hold of his!". Would be very happy if this happened to my car!

But second thought was that I'm incredibly envious that Chris owned one for any period at all, and to be fair the cars that have since replaced it were of equal hero status.

Next investment Chris, Scuderia?

the worlds gone mad

and such a shame these cars are being traded and being used as garage queens, if ever there was a car built to be enjoyed its the RS 4.0

All the people I know with one have both. It's not really an either/or at this level.

Although I completely agree...if I could only have one it would be the CGT all day. Every day.

In orange please biggrin

What an awful speculation...
I could easily understand that the price of this car in 2014 would be the same than the new price.
But an asking price at almost £300,000... that should be the case in 30 years, maybe !

And as someone perfectly said it, at equal price, who would buy a 4.0 RS instead of a Carrera GT ? I don't understand.

Not saying i disagree with what people are saying but bear in mind:

Carrera GT - 1270 made
GT3 RS 4.0 - 600 made

As said, i imagine if you can afford either, you can afford both. This story is inventing a dilemma for people that can afford neither.

300 odd grand for a 911 that looks a bit like a Matalan trainer ?

Funny how top 911's are allowed to look a bit 1980's naff and everybody goes mad for them

I think there is so much "Emperors new clothes" with 911 and slightly different versions, this is 300 grand and you can get an ordinary one for what, 20 - 30, ten plus times more for the same thing with different bits on, I could understand double or treble, but ten times ?

Suppose they only made a few and there are buyers with that kind of money about, it is kind of good you can buy an expensive car and it end up making you money and cost less than buying an Astra diesel in the long run.

There's no doubt it's a nice 911.

There's also been a lot of discussion on the pebble beach threads about car values and bubbles. I had a quick look at F40 prices. In 2006/7 they were less than £150k, now they're north of what £750k.

The value of you investment may go down as well as up. Markets are never static.

Putting your uninformed driving opinions aside, Evo magazine tested both the CGT and GT3 RS 3.8 (no 4.0 available) as part of their 'Best Car we've Ever Driven' article. The GT3 won overall, whereas the CGT didn't make it to the final shootout.

Porsche won an EVO test? Who'd have thought it.

No contest really, a CGT makes me weak at the knees.
I know where my money would go.
However the GT3 RS 4.0 is still a fantastic machine.

I know but the 911 has always been the 'Evo' car.

The CGT always had a reputation for being very dificult and unpredictable on the limit but that now seems to have been virtually eliminated with the discovery of the new Michellin Super Sports and a decent geo.

Skip to 11:35 on this Evo vid and just listen to the noise on the downshift! cloud9

Don't think his current fleet will be appreciating, FF Dont think so, Range Rover, definitely not, 2CV may make a few quid, but not 100 plus grand.

hindsight is a wonderful thing
