Driving a manual car on auto only licence

I can see an argument that unless you are a can fan and want the specific pleasure of driving a manual then the average driver, going forward, is likely to only ever drive or come across an auto.
Difficult to disagree with that. Modern autos are faster, easier and same economy. The Moose said:
I must say I don't understand why anyone (other than, say, one legged people) would take an auto test. Why limit the future possibilities?!
My wife is from the US, she doesn't know how to use a manual box, nor wants to, but can drive, so an auto licence is perfect for her, really. Although public transport is cheaper!A driver with a full auto B licence can drive on a motorway with L plates on a manual B as it comes under the same rules as B+E LGV PCV etc
It was the LGV specialist TV cop Angus Nairn who cleared this one up for me - he stated that because the driver had passed a licence where it allowed motorway travel then, providing the vehicle was not exempt, such a driver can use the motorways with any other L plated vehicles
DVLA DSA & VOSA were useless at the time when it came to getting a definitive on this but traffic cops have to interpret the law correctly or it becomes embarrassing in court
