Isn't Nissan just 2-3 in Japanese, as in Ni-San which is their racing number (23)?
That's just coincidental. The '23' race number is just an acknowledgement of that coincidence, and wasn't used until decades after the company was formed. As stated above, 'Nissan' is a contraction of 'Nihon Sangyo' dating from 1932/33.

Come on it is slightly more lunatic. Have you read some of their beliefs? Point taken though.
Always liked TC - he'd be an awesome mate to have
I don't agree with them, but I personally find the existence of aliens more plausible that the bold stories claimed by the more mainstream religionsAlways liked TC - he'd be an awesome mate to have

not sure why you view that religion as more 'lunatic' that all the other religions? (..or maybe you think they're all 'lunatic')Gary C said:

The English English pronunciation is closest to the original Japanese pronunciation. American version is miles away.
The name 'Nissan' was formed as a contraction of 'Nihon Sangyo', and the first syllable is pronounced "ni" as in the name 'Nick' (short, not long), not like "knee". http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3c...
Sorry I've checked I'm not wrong but I'm not completely right either. The name 'Nissan' was formed as a contraction of 'Nihon Sangyo', and the first syllable is pronounced "ni" as in the name 'Nick' (short, not long), not like "knee". http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3c...

It sounds like 'knee-sung' with the G only slightly pronounced. It's probably best to stick with 'knee-sun' like the Americans and who really cares anyway?!

Trust me. I know what I'm talking about with regard to the pronunciation of 'Nissan' in Japanese. I've been going back and forth to Japan for 25+ years (including over 4 years living and working there), speak Japanese fluently, have a Japanese Mrs and far too many old Nissans.
I've had this conversation before, and - sorry! - but as a proud Englishman and Japanophile I certainly will NOT be using the (wrong!) American style pronunciation.

I've been into their Head quarters in East Grinstead a few times. At their reception they have a magazine rack, and each magazine cover has the same fella on the front cover. They are maniacs. Always liked TC - he'd be an awesome mate to have

I can only suggest that you go to your GP and get your ears syringed. I don't know how you're hearing that 'g' sound on the end, unless it's the onset of tinnitus. Having said that, the guy in the youtube thing you linked to doesn't sound natural at all.

That's a native Japanese speaker saying the word 'Nihon' that sounds like 'Nee-hon' but I'm past caring now.
It's either 'Nee-sun' or 'Nee-sahn' then and my hearings fine!
