Think I need some help with my purchasing style as I end up losing lots on every car I've bought. I must admit I'm very a buyer where when I see something I want I'll buy it there and then.

Get terrible sell prices too.

Lol yes well that's double the most I've ever spent on a car plus I didn't get to test an Xdrive nor the 335d nor even physically see it in the flesh.

Its working out to be just the same monthly cost as my RS6 which kind of defeats the point of a change to save cost

How did you only lost c£280pcm on a nearly new 535d? What did you buy and sell it for- was it a distress sale and someone badly wanted to buy it?

I bought it from a forum member for £34k and sold it some 18 months or so later with 50k miles added for £31k.
I borrowed around £30k from Lombard to buy it, as I thought it was cheaper to borrow some money and be in a just released new shape 535d for £35k than in a 530d E39 at £20k.
When I sold it I walked away with my deposit back and worked out that with the interest that I had paid on the money borrowed that car had cost me £280 a month.

Just a case of buying at the right time in the depreciation curve for the vehicle you want to be in.
