Mixed feeling towards the new model. It looks good, but a little too big for my liking.

I believe it'll have standard 19" or optional 20" wheels? Excessive IMO. Is there something wrong with humble 15" or 16" wheels?

There could be a Japanese market version down the line. Think of the FD2 at a time when we were offered the FN2.

That's all well and good if you find a dealer who will let you test without first committing to buy!!
Haven't met one that won't yet! Been out in the A45 AMG, M135i, Golf R etc etc etc.

In my world yes. But then almost all hot hatches look like chav specials to me.
This is why I love my Mk 1 Mazda 3 MPS.

Because the tyres would be massive and 16s most likey wouldn't clear the brakes? Cars of got bigger and so have wheels. My golf bluemotion has 16inch hubcaps on! Gone are the days of 13s

I'm 24 and I love it. I have high levels of want and if I wasn't so against buying stuff on tick I'd get one immediately if not sooner.

I'm 25 next month so I'll just say that's what I want for my birthday and threaten to kick off if I don't get what I want like everyone else does.

If an Evo 9 can get good stopping power inside 17's then i'm sure Honda could manage it too, maybe 18's if you want a bit more space? But 20's is unnecessary, that's the realm of Ferrari size callipers. When my type R had 18's the tyres were £120 a corner for good rubber, the optional 19's were over double that, so it's an easy way of keeping running costs sensible. £460 for a new set of boots is manageable for most, £1000 will hurt.

  • i am assuming the tyre prices are the same, it was 5 years ago i last checked.

The EP3 only looks subtle to modern eyes - it had big, flashy alloys with low profile tyres, a big rear roof spoiler and side skirts with decals on them. At the time it was about as subtle as a punch in the face.
You're right:

Hardly representative. Arguably not really a hot hatch.

Last set of tyres to fit 19" wheels I purchased where £720 for four (235/35 mich PSS) so prices for 19"s have dropped in the past few years quite considerably. However I do agree that optional 20" wheels seem unnecessary, I'm not sure if the picture is of the 19" or 20" but the calliper and disc look lost behind the wheels particularly at the back.

Is it not the case that, all cars have just got bigger?

Yes, all cars have got bigger, but why do I think that height is growing more than width and length? Headroom in many cars now seems excessive.

To fit all the big heads in who like to boast that they have the quickest fwd car around a track in Germany...

I suppose not, you couldn't allow something to contradict your point of view. If you can argue that it's not hot (highest power in its class at the time) and it's not a hatch, then fine.

Speaking as a 16-soon-to-be-17 year old, I'd guess that I'm in the target age range, and I actually like the look of it, which is unusual because I generally despise OTT styling, especially when it's little hatchbacks with a ridiculously tuned up engine done by a chav.
You're definitely not the target age range for a £30k car...

A hot hatch in the context of the new CTR is a hotted up practical family car. An attempt to turn a hatchback shell into a mid engined two seat sports car is not really the same thing. The Focus RS was the closest thing at the time, and that also looked pretty lairy for its day and relatively tame by modern standards. A MK 4 Golf GTi or a 306 GTi-6 was more typical.

I think that looks bloody great. I'm 39.

Although I did own an FN2 for 3 years, so...

I also love how the Golf R looks...
