This is definitely the best Shed of the year so far. My father had the equivalent 300E saloon and it was wonderful. The coupe is just a bit more stylish. Probably need to make sure it doesn't have some of the common old W124 electrical gremlins, but otherwise you'll be fine with this. The faults on this model are well documented and not difficult to fix.
Performance wise these old girls are really pretty good. Wonderful waft factor on the motorway, and classy inside.
10 out of 10.
Agreed - a very strange comment re the interiors above! The interior is the best thing - missing all the fashionable nonsense of modern cars, with everything you need in a high quality finish (without squeaks!). Performance wise these old girls are really pretty good. Wonderful waft factor on the motorway, and classy inside.
10 out of 10.
Mine will be fully renovated in the coming months, the underside (suspension, brakes, fuel lines) is done to be followed by the rest of the car and then paint!

Have you ever been in one?! My recently sold '94 320 Coupe didn't have a single rattle or squeak after 140k miles.
Nor does mineWhen I was younger we had a 300CE, fantastic vehicle, I still remember coming out of London one summers evening in it at good speed, windows down, wind blowing through, it was excellent.
Few years back while picking up my dad from Moor Park golf club there was a beautiful deep blue(Azurite?) CE with cream interior it was getting more attention than the Bentleys surrounding it and everyone was saying how its a proper car etc etc.
If I didn't have to commute so much and didn't live up the side of a mountain I'd have one in a heart beat.

I'm not usually one to comment negatively on Pistonheads articles for which I have paid nothing to read. Besides, my English grammar is far from perfect. However I cannot be the only one to think that this article is very difficult to read? And do we really need the 'humorous' references to Mrs Shed?
Not withstanding the above, the car is an excellent SOTW!

1) get some glasses - works for me1) However I cannot be the only one to think that this article is very difficult to read?
2) And do we really need the 'humorous' references to Mrs Shed?
2) It's not a question of need, but I find they add to the overall 'Friday feeling' of the article, please leave them in.

Neither did mine - 150k mile '95 E320 Coupe. Bloody lovely car, so smooth, so well put together and not at all slow. Not as big (wide) as some might think. Just proved impractical for my needs, but I'm glad I had one for a short time.Silky though..
Great cars but a very dull choice for shed of the week in my opinion - I prefer the leftfield oddball choices. You can gush over these cars every day in the bargain barge thread (AKA the old Merc/BMW/Volvo thread).
5 out of 10, no imagination and probably already in the bargain barge thread, but predictably will please the masses no end.

My Brother is a Merc fan and has had many W123 Series models. He did own a W124 a few years ago and it was a lovely car. Although his was the 12V version it was still potent enough for most. Handled pretty well too and returned around low 20s MPG. My fav feature was the way the seatbelt is electrically bought forward so it's easier to grab.
This is the only pic I have of it parked with a Stag I had at the time. His came with factory fitted AMG boot spoiler and genuine 16" AMG wheels (He's still got the wheels as fitted larger 18s as in the pic)
Amazing how cheap you can get one now although the convertibles have held their value extremely well..
