I have had nothing but good service and experiences with my preferred Merc dealership over the last 13 years.

There are some good ones about.

Had my C63 serviced at Loughborough Mercedes Benz dealt with an extremely pleasant young lady called Sarah,
Wonder if that's the same girl on LinkedIn
If so, she sure looks like the party type!

Picked up Mrs Atommad's car from MB dealer after service. Noticed a rattle over speed bumps near home. Stuck my head underneath to find the tech's ring spanner hanging of the calliper bleed nipple. Called up MB they said nothing to do with us. Asked if the tech who serviced the car was missing a FACOM ring spanner 9mm (or whatever size it was), they said "oh wait I'll put you through to the service manager"

He left his spanner on the calliper. So did he actually remember to change the fluid, tighten the nipple, etc.,.

Cost of service refunded. FACOM ring spanner returned.

My DD gets serviced by Audi, it's a company car. They always switch the auto headlights from auto to off. I never touch it from auto and inevitably end up getting flashed because I pull out of the dealership car park with no headlights on. I always tell them, they always apologise, they never change their bad habit.

I can live with that, it's obvious when I get back in, but the headlights you don't notice because they're always on Auto.

Not sure is this applies to all current Mercs, but some I've driven don't have an 'off' position - it's been replaced by 'auto'.

Mine do turn off and I never use auto since someone pulled out in front of me as I drove under a bridge as my lights 'popped' on and the other driver thought I'd flashed him.

Symptons seem very similar to the problems they had with fuel injectors about 3 years ago.

Have they diagnosed the problem yet?
You are correct!!

Although a bit more to it than that.

They fitted new injectors at the service as MB had issued a directive ( I wasn't told) but the new injectors were fitted incorrectly hence the problem at the mo. So they have to refit, or tweak these plus of course unblock the washers!

On the plus side they delivered a ML 350 to me which is superb.

I can understand those who say things go wrong and they are putting it right very well but it really shouldn't have happened I feel.

Agree, that shouldn't really happen if they fit and road test properly.

Maybe its the fact that they come on when they go in the workshop if they are set to auto??

And if you need other drivers to flash you, to tell you to put your headlights on in the dark, then you shouldn't be on the fking road.

Just sayin'.

This (not being told about service advisory work) comes up all the time with MB - the dealers must be told not to tell people but it would have made it much less concerning for you if you'd known.

Took the wife's BMW X1 in for a replacement parking sensor under warranty. It needs the bumper easing out to get in behind and take out the sensor.

When wifey returned home I had a look and saw that they had used a screwdriver or bradawl to dig the sensor out of the bumper. So they ended up having to do it again and repaint the whole bumper just because of some lazy ratsnatch of a 'technician'

It grates me having to pay BMW dealership rates only to get some arse stain of a young incompetent lad working on the car.

Best one I heard was a Ford dealer many moons ago fitting a brand new autobox to a Scorpio but neglecting to put any ATF in. Result - a further replacement for that seized autobox!

Salesmen are just as bad, ordered a brand new slk a few years ago the new shape, ordered it in white and after a week was told that white wasn't available due to a problem with the suppliers, I re ordered and had the car in black, turned up at the dealership to re sign the paperwork, the main door was locked, rang the salesman on the mobile and he told me he had already left, I reminded him that the show room was made of glass and I could see him at his desk!! Idiot.

As it was just signing the order I kept asking him to email it, he was adamant I came to the dealer, think they closed at 7ish and I was there at ten to so technically no. Was hard work from start to finish buying that car. Didn't rate it much either and soon sold it on.

Cheers.

I was quoted about £300 for an A service on my E Class earlier in the year, more than half of which was for 8 litres of oil. I happened to have four 4l packs of Castrol Edge in my garage, 2 x 5w/40 and 2 x 5w/30, both approved to relevant MB level for the car.

They couldn't tell me on the phone which one was needed for my car but confirmed that either would "probably do" and agreed that I could bring my own oil and they would check and fill with the appropriate weight.

I waited for an hour in the showroom while the service took place, paid my £150 and went out to the car. Opening the boot to see which oil packs were used, I had.... 1 x 5w/30 and 1 x 5w/40 left....

I refused to drive the car away until I had an email from the service manager stating that this would in no way harm the engine and that they would assume responsibility for any subsequent issues.

The car is still under warranty but for £110/hour labour charge I do expect them to be able to read the side of an oil can. Perhaps I hope for too much? I realise anyone can make a mistake, but....

It's always going to be a mixed bag depending on each individual dealer branch and the mechanics.

Audi Leeds were a barrel of laughs when I offered to take my sisters A3 down for servicing a few years back. Rang me up a few hours later suggesting I get the air filter and pollen filter replaced. Went in again for servicing 6 months later and again I got a call saying they needed changing as they apparently hadn't been changed for quite a while. Had to remind them that the service invoice from 6 months ago had them listed.

VW Bradford on the other hand were brilliant. Leased MK6 Golf had a slight hesitation when changing between certain gears. Booked it in, they thought it was the clutch pack so changed those. Didn't cure it but made it less noticeable in my opinion. They were still unhappy and ended up changing the box. Left me with a similar courtesy car whilst the work was done.

Got it in one-it's all down to the values of the staff and management at each individual site, as well as to a lesser extent, the company culture of the chain (as applicable) that the dealership is owned by.
