The BMW dealership I use has large windows into the workshop from waiting area and you can see what is going on. They have been pretty good whenever I have dealt with them, but it was cars brought new from them.

Took the wife's BMW X1 in for a replacement parking sensor under warranty. It needs the bumper easing out to get in behind and take out the sensor.

When wifey returned home I had a look and saw that they had used a screwdriver or bradawl to dig the sensor out of the bumper. So they ended up having to do it again and repaint the whole bumper just because of some lazy ratsnatch of a 'technician'

It grates me having to pay BMW dealership rates only to get some arse stain of a young incompetent lad working on the car.
But wait! They must be doing something utterly fking amazing for fitting a set of windscreen wipers to cost £13.20

Needless to say, upon sight of this I told the nice lady behind the counter to remove it, which she did.

Audi oil and filter service £680

Friendly independent £180

New headlight bulb (requires removal of front bumper, what a cool
Design) £320 (2 hours plus part)

Indi, just charged for the part because I'm a regular.

Dread to think what the brakes and other bits and bobs I've had done would cost at main dealer.

That is a rip off considering the (very reasonable) fixed price servicing costs for engines 2.0 litres or smaller. Can't have THAT much more oil in a bigger engine!

Oil and filter change plus brake fluid service £198 at my indie. BMW wanted £350. Rear discs pads shoes fitted £370 at the indie, BMW wanted £600. Even if I was ever fortunate enough to buy a new BMW, it would go to the indie from day one.

The same dealer insisted my previous E39 528i was an E34.

And no, the same dealer have never heard of the advertised value servicing (my car is a 2002)

Impossible if you're an utter mong who needs to hand in their internet use permit at the door. Then go and bolt gun themselves in the head. The utter fking fktards.

That must have made your day finding a commonly mistyped/used word so you can show your superiority.

BMW Value Servicing (which you have to ask as the dealer obviously will not come up with it otherwise) is CHEAPER than my local BMW indies, Munich Legends included. Confusing.

I wish my life was as perfect as yours.

If that's all you've got to worry about, fair play to you.

I've had to bite my tounge for a while on this thread, but this...

That looks like 0.1 for wiper blades, so 6 minutes. 6 minutes to get the keys, get the parts, find car, fit the blades, dispose of old blades, short write up on job card and return keys. How on earth can you argue it isn't reasonable to charge you for a task that in most likely took the tech longer that the allotted time to complete? Or are you going to argue that the dealership should be happy with just your custom because of their excellent margin on a set of wiper blades? laugh

So what do people think this costs to run:

Compared to this:

You pays your money.

Our Toyota main dealer changed the wiper blades at every single service, they'd swap the perfect original equipment blades for cheap squeaky copies and charge £25 for the privilege, even when I taped a note to the steering wheel stating "Please don't fit new wiper blades" the £25 charge would appear on the invoice.

They had 12 'technicians' servicing 10 cars each per day so rough maths shows they charge out £750,000 per year just for wiper blades.

I've had a few run ins with main dealers but on the flip side Rates Ford in Grays were superb when I had my RS. Around half the price of other main dealers and techs that know and appreciate the car. Even got a small RS bag for the locking wheel nut, a nice touch, and of course they don't wash it which saves some monkey scratching it up with a yard broom.

So is MB's but they're being quite organised now in not stamping the service book or continuing the Mobilo cover. I got a compromise price from my dealer for the car's last service, but they then found a broken front spring - Warranty Direct paid for one and the dealer slightly (but only very slightly) discounted the other so they turned a £190 price into nearly £600.

I know they do break ( I had it happen on another car) but find it odd there was absolutely no indication it had broken.

Take a look below - that's another £32.09 for the wipers plus £11 fitting. The £32.09 would already include the fetching and carrying you mention, unless the customer is supposed to go into the stockroom and find the parts themselves after paying for them that is.

Dealers are very good at charging multiple times for the same thing when jobs overlap but they are billed discretely. This is a classic example.

Yet, if they charged you £40 and said 'free fitting' you'd consider it a deal :-)

A "B" service....SLK AMG Diesel .... £391
Where are you getting an SLK B service for £391? Mine pinged up needing a B about six weeks before it was due to go back and MB Leeds wanted £500 for it (it's an oil change and compulsory (IMO totally unnecessary) brake fluid change. I gave the car back and got the new one delivered early.
