Can car salesmen ever speak witout lying?
Discussion
I visited a local Suzuki dealer at the weekend thinking about buying a 4 year old SX4 for my wife's daily driver. I'd seen it there a few times over the past couple of weeks , did a bit of research on MPG, reliability etc and was about 50/50 on whether to buy it or not. We went in, sat in the car, had a wee test run and although it wasn't an exiting car, it seemed to tick most of the boxes and we were about 80/20 in favour of buying it.... then the salesman opened his mouth.
He quickly went through every bit of bull in the salesman's dictionary till he finished with 'you'll have to be quick if you want it, I've got someone else coming in 10 minutes for a test drive'. Minds made up, we left immediately.
Do these guys actually believe they are selling when they come out with this stuff and do some people really fall for it?

Tyre kicker, maybe. Did the possibility of someone else maybe wanting the car put you off so much?He quickly went through every bit of bull in the salesman's dictionary till he finished with 'you'll have to be quick if you want it, I've got someone else coming in 10 minutes for a test drive'. No, I went with cash in my pocket ready to buy if my wife liked the car, but I won't deal with someone who is lying to me, I don't know anyone who would hence the question 'does anyone ever fall for this ?'

Hopefully the bloke that was coming 10 minutes later wasn't a time waster and bought the car.
Happens a lot. The OP then rings up the next day calling us all the names under the sun because we've sold the car to someone else. The someone else who actually had the money to pay for it and bought it whilst they were there.

I'm struggling to see any untruth? He had an appointment on that car and didn't want you to be disappointed. Happens every day and it's not nice having to tell Mr Indecisive that someone else walked in after he left and bought the car his Mrs had her heart set on. Anyway, the whole story sounds like a load of bks from yet another PH willy waver. If you really walked away from the car you wanted because you (almost certainly erroneously) thought the salesman was trying to bs you then you're a muppet. But I suspect it's another Walter Mitty job.

So, if you'd gone away for 1/2 hour for a cup of tea to think about it before coming back to buy, only to find him signing someone up that he knew was coming in straight after you but hadn't bothered to tell you even though you'd made it clear you were seriously interested, would that have been wrong too?
I suspect I know the answer...

Do you honestly believe he had an appointment scheduled 10 minutes later?I have closed deals on cars that were being test driven by someone else as my customer was sat at my desk negotiating.

How do you know he wasn't telling the truth?
The 'I've got some one else coming to look at it' one was only the final of many.He also told me ' A diesel SX4 is at a premium because the new s-cross isn't available in diesel' 'One of the few cars around that gets better than the official mpg' 'It really is one owner, the DVLA are always making mistakes' 'It doesn't matter that it isn't 4wd, it's a really simple conversion to make later' 'Drum brakes on the rear are better than discs because they don't get wet, all the best manufacturers are going back to them' and a few more that I can't think of at the moment.
The car was what it was, I came prepared to buy it, he put me off.
