5Club MX5 Cup Silverstone International 2014 Race…: http://youtu.be/a6iO3TQjXp4

Personally i find this rather amusing but would be rather pissed off if it was me driving.

Saw that this morning.
Pretty dangerous thing to do at those kind of speeds...could have seriously hurt himself. Very funny to see though!

I would have loved to have seen the post-race reaction.

Gets a thumbs up from driver, prevented wing mirror being snapped off.

Not dangerous at all, bit annoying to not have a mirror but at least it isn't smashed off.

I used to race aganst Ben (white #4) in the mk1 mx5s and I'm 100% sure this was done purely for comedy value, it certainly made me laugh! Nothing to do with preserving wing mirrors as there is plenty of room on the hanger straight for 3 wide in mazdas.

Not sure what the advertising kick back is like on YouTube, but maybe with the number of views the video is getting HavenRacing might get enough to cover his next entry fee!

Great stuff, made my day so far . To be fair, it looks like he squashed his hand between the two mirrors slightly, the white cars wing mirror folds in slightly as he grabs the camera cars mirror. Risky, but very amusing.

Rather amusing smile

Guess he trusts his own abilities and that of the other driver.

It is after all club racing which is a bit of fun smile

And to be fair, an MX-5 is so small you can probably lean across and flip it back. I have done in the past, but not when driving around a racetrack.

Probably a tad tricky with a proper harness on.

Look what's actually going on.

The other guys folds his mirror in to prevent it from being broken off during wheel to wheel contact.

The driver even gave him a 'thumbs up'. I assume they all had a pre-race brief about debris, close contact racing etc.

I race in the series with both the guys in this video - it was Ben (the white car) having a bit of fun with James. I was in the pitlane at silverstone as I'm unable to race at the moment and there was a lot of chat after the race about it and plenty of banter between Ben and James.

Interesting the 'theories' about folding in the mirror to avoid it being broken off - you've obviously not seen much MX5 racing :-) . It was indeed just for comedy value / banter. The tumbs up was more of an ironic 'yeah, cheers buddy!'.

Ben was thinking of opening the passenger door, but decided that would indeed be dangerous ;-)

Amazing it's managed to go viral, I'd seen the video a couple of days ago and about 20 people had watched it!
