At just under £21k before they are imported here, you would have to be a very big fan to bring one over yourself.
A new Defender 90 is £25k. The LC70 is arguably superior.

Mercedes want £80k for a G350.

Since when did cars need to be 8 years old to import them?
I was thinking the same thing... Don't American / Japanese imports now have an IVA type approval based on the equivalent local approvals ?

Haha, I love that this has gone off the market and come back again and it's STILL miles better than the stty old Defender that LR have been selling the entire time.

Not generally a modern 4x4 fan, but this re-re is very cool. Way better value than a G.

At £21k it strikes me as quite good value. I like its old school looks too. I think its actually cheaper than the equivalent Defender. I'm not bothered about the leaf springs on the back.

Or why not just buy a old 70 and give the thing a valet and tell people it's a brand new one?

A proper 4x4!

- Most of the "lifestyle" crap on the market today wouldn't last five minutes in places the 70 Series calls "home".

Coming soon on CNN coverage, in white to a jihadi near you. The New old 70 series!

Interested to see what engine it will come with if it makes it to our shores for the Euro emissions or will it then just be a continuation of an old model so be exempt?

If they brought back the related Hilux pickup (also on cart springs), I'd have one like a shot and probably start a dealership. I get about one guy a week knock on my door asking if mine is for sale.

AT £21k purchase price in Japan + Import duties, delivery costs + registration fees, agent fees + VAT will end up more than £25k .... But agree alot better than the defenders they are still selling.

Also with the imports under 10 years old I believe you need something from the manufacturers to confirm it is UK equivilant and spec + a more stringent MOT (SVA or IVA or something), I am sure someone on here will ba able to advise the correct terminology.

I used to drive a 2-door LWB Venezuelan built 70 Machito with the straight-6 4.5 petrol engine. It got used much more than the Bronco or Merc ML. Great machine, I have been nosing around for a 2nd hand one for a while in the UK.

Most of the armoured Land Cruisers that go around Kabul today are 70 series ones.
There are definitely some 70's around, certainly the SF boys like them for their reliability and tough off road capabilities.

However in Kabul most of the Land Cruisers are LC 200's, for a couple of reasons. The 70's are very narrow and with a couple of bigs chaps in body armour, you can't operate properly. Secondly, the LC200's are much more "luxurious" which sadly is what matters more to most VIP's being ferried around in the back.

Here's where a lot of them come from :

I think that's a definite problem with the old/new LC70's, I'm not sure they now meet all the EU various nanny state laws/regulations. Where I'm living now I can walk into the local Toyota dealer and buy one for just a bit over $22,000 (with winch and snorkel as standard wink)...but then I'm not if I'd ever be able to register it back in Europe frown

New in Italy €48.000 http://home.automobile.it/4XTEK#des_198490073 or here on Mobile.de in Germany http://tinyurl.com/m4h5w5l should be EU spec, seems like the place to search if you are seriously looking.
