I've a new Mini on order that will be on a '64' plate, however I've ordered a personalised '64' registration from DVLA Registrations with my initials on.

I saw my first one today on the road - a white Range Rover Evoque. Quite high spec by the looks of it. smile

Missus picked hers up on Monday. They had it barriered off and a little red carpet in front of it and handshakes all round. Nice bouquet of flowers to go with it too which was a nice touch. Exceptional customer service experience from Toyota considering it's 'only' a new Aygo.

She's loving it, picked it up with 1 mile showing on the odo and they gave her half a tank of petrol too.

A friend who had a brand new BMW big cooper had this problem. It overheated relentlessly for weeks...

Shirley each car gets at least some testing before release?

Some new cars are delivered with <5 miles on the clock, particularly cars like the Juke made in Sunderland and MINIs made in Oxford as they haven't even been driven onto or off a boat.

If a car has an underlying issue, it will likely be discovered by the first owner, on their first long journey. But that is what the warranty is there for.

I've only seen one so far. A customer of mine pulled up in our carpark on Monday in his 64 reg BMW M4! It was very nice with pretty much every option in the brochure!

Very bling'd up '64' Evoque on M25 this morning. Metallic white with shiny black everything. Bit boring for a look now methinks.

Owner very happily tanking it!

Apologies but I'm going to be really boring here...

I've read on this thread that a number of people have seen 64 cars on the road with trade plates pre September 1st. How is that possible? Being a computerised system that spits out the next available plate; what confuses me is that I thought the system would not be able register a car as 64 before September the 1st as it hasn't finished using up the 14 plates? I guess some dealers pretend it's a personalised plate and use NU64 REG etc.. but it doesn't sound like this.

Anyway the first one I saw was a black 'Limited Edition' Corsa. Bit of a let down if you ask me. The one I saw after that was the new Merc C Class... not much better looks wise, looks bloody awful. Merc seem to be having a nightmare with their new designs!

The cars are on trade plates because they have not been registered yet. The fact that a number plate has been fitted means nothing until the button is pressed on the AFRL system to register the car with the DVLA. 64 plates are available to choose from early August and we often start fitting plates then, in readiness for registration from 1st Sept.

Thanks for clearing that up smile I had assumed that once the plate was generated and produced, naturally, that plate was registered to that car through the DVLA. I didn't realise they were two separate actions (when registering a new car anyway).

Ok so I'm cheating as it's 4 days before the plate change on 1 Sept, but I saw a transporter on the M25 with 5 Thrifty combivan rentals today, all plated up as 64s and ready to roll for Monday. So unless you work in a main dealer.. be interesting to hear how quickly people see new cars emerging in this post-recession time (yeah right!), plus thoughts on whether we still care to be seen to be driving / riding the newest?
Be interesting?? Really..............
