Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.. I've somehow damaged the side wall of my rear left hand side tyre (photo attached hopefully). God knows how it happened.
It's a rough wedge-like cut in the thickest bit of the rubber, and you can't see the cording (is that the tight phrase) underneith. Weirdly, there's no damage to the alloy.
Should I replace the tyre? If so, do I replace the rear pair (they're pretty new tyres I think).

Thanks in advance!
Graham

Take another picture with that wedge peeled back. The cut is irrelevant, what's beneath it is what's important

I think underneath would be better.

That looks like it's deep, but is it on the rim protection?.

Personally I'd change it if it was me.

This-it's impossible to judge without seeing the damage underneath.

I'd replace it. It's maybe half as strong as it should be. Hit a big bump, maybe it'll burst. Don't glue it, although super glue does a brilliant job. I did this once and it was ok, but if it bursts, cause you to have a crash it may make you liable.

No legal obligation to replace as the cords are not visible. However, for peace of mind you may wish to.

Could that one not be revulcanised? It's not down to the ply by the look of it.

Thanks for the advice so far.. that's probably the best photo I can get tonight - the flash was on!
All you see underneath is black rubber.

OP it looks like it's just the rim protecter and is quite common, I would take it to a tyre outlet you trust rather than ask on here.
