Chaps,
Father in Laws 53 plate Citreon Xsara VTR 3 door failed it's MOT today due to drivers seat not latching securely.

It's basically worn out.

Been looking for a replacement seat but it seems they are the proverbial hens teeth for this model. Question I have is, was the seat used in another model? Is there another seat type which will fit?

Budget is limited and the car is there life line as they live in rural Northamptonshire.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Liszt

To solve the immediate MOT problem, can the passenger seat be swapped to driver side and the passenger side left empty? Just a thought, because I've switched seats L/R myself in the past, but may depend on how the seatbelts are arranged.

I'm not sure if it's the case with the driver's seat but an awful lot of Xsara parts crossed over with the Peugeot 306.

Look up and call Chevronics in Hitchin-they keep quite a lot of random Citroen stuff-it's worth the ask.

Or put a 5-door model one in if they are easier to get hold of. (assumes the mounts are the same)
Sure, you won't be able to get in the back, but it won't fail.

Tried to affect a repair but mechanism is very worn and made of tin foil so not alot to work on.

Needs to be a drivers as it is the linkage to get into the rear.

Will give that breaker a call in the morning,

Could a cheap competition seat bolted into the floorpan be the answer?

As has already been said - 3dr 306s are definitely worth a look, as well as 3dr Xsaras (not many!). Mainland Euro breakers and LHD passenger seats? Don't get too hung up on the trim material itself - or even the finer detail of the seat shape - matching, because the base and mechanism will almost certainly be swappable around.

A 5dr seat will work just fine in the interim if you're happy to have rear access via passenger side only.

I'll also second the suggestion of contacting Rob at Chevronics. Top guy.

I placed a request on 24/7 spares at 6.30am Sat and had two replies before 8.30am.

Free, so no harm banging in requests with multiple sites before you go to bed.

Try asking on Peugeot/Citroen forums as well.

Last resort, can you borrow a suitable seat to get through the MOT?
