An M5 is too big for me. Same for the Alpina B10 mentioned earlier (plus an auto is no fun).

Don't think £10k will get you in one.

And they are no where near the bracket i'm wanting performance wise

My brother had a VX220, I like it but wouldn't consider it a daily drive prospect.

That S2000 is interesting. I don't know much about the engines but I wonder if 350bhp is near the limit of a stock bottom end?

S2000s are supposedly good for more like 700 bhp on the stock bottom end. Have a look at the TTS chargers.

Are the later blob eye DCCD Imprezas as good as/better than the older Type-R's?
As a drivers car no. As a daily driver probably.

R32/R33 GTR or a mk4 Supra of any interest to you? What about a Z4M?

A Z4M is out of my price range and probably a bit slower than I want.

The R32 and R33's do appeal to me but I think they are a bit old these days, not sure I'd fancy one as a daily. The Supra has never really done it for me. I like them, love the fact they are really tuneable but just never really wanted one, not sure if it's because they are a bit fat.

I've spotted a lovely Impreza Type-R in the PH classifieds, 450bhp forged engine, big brakes, seems a great spec for only 8k.

The only problem for the Impreza is the image, i'd be embarrassed if I was to drive it past a group of women for example. That wouldn't be the case in a Maserati 3200. (I know I'm probably moving the goal posts)

From what I've read they can take an awful lot more with stock internals - I believe 350 is very safe. I have seriously considered buying that car but I'm looking for something a bit more comfortable.

As far as I know, any 4WD car can be converted to RWD.

A few people have mentioned M3. I think everyone missed the key word when I originally mentioned one. That was "supercharged". I wouldn't want a standard one
Carbon airbox & Alpha-N provides more giggles IMO. Don't believe it's possible to have both that and a supercharger for packaging reasons, but open to correction...

Nope not possible..the air box sits right where the charger goes……I may know of an 11k supercharged M3 that will be needing a good home shortly (as in, 4 weeks when I move to Scotland)……..

In giggles per mile, I think the supercharged would win…….akin to sitting on the end of a lit firework. Too much power for tight twisty bits in Scotland though.

I might be interested. There are currently 2 supercharged M3's i've seen advertised, one on ebay and one on Auto Trader at a dealer. Both are 11k. Is your mates one of these or another one?

Have a look at captainawesome's threads, he has a readers' rides thread about his supercharged M3,presumably the one for sale.

Yup, thread should tell you all you need to know. She is booked for MOT tomorrow morning. PM me if interested. I'm in the Banbury area. It's not advertised yet.

To be honest OP, it sounds like you're painting yourself into a bit of a corner with your requirements. There aren't that many cars you can buy for sub £10k that can crack sub 5 seconds to 60, let alone with you excluding 4 wheel drive and automatic super saloons, which lets be honest is the vast majority of the cars that can deliver eye watering performance for reasonable money, modified or not.

You're right, it's not easy to come up with something that'll fit my brief. That's the reason for the thread.

The S2000 turbo is a good choice and something I hadn't considered before. Same goes for a DCCD Impreza Type R. That's 2 options that weren't really on my radar.

I have to say, I think the idea of a supercharged M3 is winning. Good power, from what i'm reading, economy isn't bad either. While they are dated they are still nice enough inside (compared to an Impreza, RX7, Supra, etc). They are also practical enough, I could get my daughters child seat in the back if needed.

Captain awesome, I sent you an email message.
