VW - 'well worth it' ad
Discussion
VW will have spent millions on market research for that ad to see how many people thought it was funny and passed on the message they wanted to give which I think is that quality comes at a price.
Everybody knows the golf is a decent car and very refined but cost more than an equally refined cars like the focus etc, all VW is saying is that they know the golf costs more but you get what you pay for.
A few people are put off by "quality" brands but a lot of people do aspire to having a golf and that's who the ad is aimed at.
The golf is a brilliant car and I'd class it as more than just a box!

I think it's insulting to anyone who's ever owned a VW and had problems with the car / dealer / VW UK.
They really do need to up their customer services game - there's a definite "we couldn't give a toss" attitude if you have a problem and cheapskate policies in things like the cars only coming with 1 year roadside assistance cover.
Surely you could say that about any car manufactures that sell a lemon and then don't care about the customer there's loads of threads about people with BMWS mercs jags etc that have had poor expiriances. They really do need to up their customer services game - there's a definite "we couldn't give a toss" attitude if you have a problem and cheapskate policies in things like the cars only coming with 1 year roadside assistance cover.
You can see quality in VW products compared to other brands.
We have a 11 plate golf and a 12 plate focus both mid range and the golf has more equipment, the doors make a more solid clunk and nothing's gone wrong with the golf. The focus has nicer screens but it still feels a bit tiny and the quality of the plastics is lower. Also little things like no auto locking on drive off and no hill start asit. Little things that make it worth it

The message is 'sometimes it is worth spending more'. How can you possibly take offence to that?
Why do people get shirty when it comes to cars? Apply it to supermarkets. We don't need marks and spencers we have asda We don't need a top class restaurant you can get a burger from mcdonalds
We don't need a Ralph Lauren shirts we have Primark.
We don't need to live in a Charles church home we have local authority places
We don't need to drink aged wine when we have a asda wine box.
We don't need a iphone we have a Nokia 3310
We don't need a holiday to the Jamaica we can go to butlins.
All nicer products cost more, no one complains about anything else

So have we, a Twist, and even now I can't quite believe it only cost £13K new. It does feel a cut above other cars. I hummed and harred about the Match model, but £6K more at the time seemed ridiculous and bearing in mind the issues with the 1.4TSi engine, I'm glad I avoided it.However I've been dismayed by petty things VW do. It's the only car in our family fleet (Mercedes, Honda & Mitsubishi) which doesn't get its breakdown cover renewed at each service.
VW fitted diamond cut alloys (bear in mind this is a budget level car) and have fobbed me off when they inevitably deteriorated (the wheels are remarkably - as it's my daughter's car - unkerbed). The dealer lied about the warranty on them being extended. VW UK said they'd sort it out, but that turned out to mean passing the buck back to the dealer who refused to accept the wheels should be replaced.
There was much argument about what the service package included - I kept being bounced around and was eventually told I had to deal with VWFS about it, and the people they have there really shouldn't be in customer facing roles.
Servicing always feel like a scam - you ring up (a call centre ) to be told the car needs a major service, it'll take hours and cost loads. Then you say it's on a service contract and you'll wait while it's done, and you're in and out in an hour, and that includes washing the car. And I don't even want to talk about the scam that is the frequent cambelt change, which seems to be only required on UK models!

The general public swallow that kind of marketing message. See also Stella Artois (which is disgusting).
VW make fairly average cars (with the exception of the Golf, which is a good but not great car) but charge thousands more than manufacturers of very similarly equipped and capable cars. Good on them, but I wouldn't pay the extra for almost any of them.
That said, it's notable that the VW marque is still barely profitable.
Stella, as a lager is fine, it's just the image that some struggle with, I have tried a blind taste test with Peroni and Becks, can't tell the difference, just snobbery, it's all five percent gassy lager at the end of the day.VW make fairly average cars (with the exception of the Golf, which is a good but not great car) but charge thousands more than manufacturers of very similarly equipped and capable cars. It’s the stuff that is missing from that ad—the helicopter shots, heavily-graded landscapes, handsome thirty-something driving through the city at night, trendy soundtrack—that is more important than the dialogue.
VW make car ads with four seconds (count them) of car in them. That’s what you’re buying into.

You mean it's more about perceived image than the car itself?VW make car ads with four seconds (count them) of car in them. That’s what you’re buying into.
Mind. Blown.
