Reassuringly Expensive

Full disclosure: I have a VW and it cost too much compared to its competitors.

VW does a great job of selling mostly cr*ppy cars of mixed quality at highish prices. Their marketing and advertising are excellent.

One of the better car ad's around atm at least it has abit of humour.

The general public swallow that kind of marketing message. See also Stella Artois (which is disgusting).

VW make fairly average cars (with the exception of the Golf, which is a good but not great car) but charge thousands more than manufacturers of very similarly equipped and capable cars. Good on them, but I wouldn't pay the extra for almost any of them.

That said, it's notable that the VW marque is still barely profitable.

But to me it seems the ad (the parachute one)is saying the cheap one does exactly the same thing as the expensive one it even comes with extra kit.

I disagree with the "well worth it" slogan - I checked out the Golf and against the Volvo V40 I bought it seemed crap in just about every way.

Even the Mk3 Focus I looked at seemed a more alluring ownership prospect, apart from the cluster**** of a dashboard.
