New style driving licence question.........
Discussion
It’s just a security feature, absolutely nothing to do with penalty points.
P.s. I work at the DVLA!

The feature discussed here is section 13 on the back of the UK driver licence:
Scroll down on the link here and it is stated:
"Not used (13)
Other security features
The driving licence also has tactile (raised) surfaces, tactile engraved text, changing colours, as well as complex background designs."

This cannot be true, it has all the hallmarks of an urban legend. Firstly, nobody would have a red light because banned people don't even get issued with licences (the licence you have at the time you are banned goes back to Swansea when you are banned).
Secondly, I just arrived back from five years in Asia, before which I lived in Belgium and then Finland for a total of seven years. The last time I drove in the UK was in September 2014, in a Finnish-registered VW Transporter which I used to transport my stuff from Halsinki. I was not stopped by the police at any time in that short visit, and if I had been caught on camera then the vehicle wasn't on DVLA records and so wouldn't have been traceable to me. Ergo, my amber light definitely on my just-renewed licence does not mean I have something pending - if I had anything pending that I had been ignoring, I doubt they would have just given me a new licence without also an invitation to court.

I explained it above, for amber anyway.
Green = no convictions, no pending prosecutions
Yellow = something pending
Red = currently banned
Its all explained on the leaflet that was in with the licence.

Correct: It is definitely NOT true - KFC was only having a laugh. This was established on page 2 of this thread - back in 2014.DVLA have confirmed that the "traffic lights" logo on the back of the photocard has no meaning. It is simply a design feature.
Would it not have been better to read a few more posts before unnecessarily bumping this thread? And now I've bumped it -doh!

Anyone know what the traffic light icon/symbol is on the back of the new NEW style driving licences?
Is yours amber? red? green?
Do you have points at all?
Just trying to work out if amber or red means points...etc
Anyone know?
Did you not get the pamphlet in the letter with the licence? Its all explained in there.Is yours amber? red? green?

Amber means you have pending speeding prosecutions, looks like you've been caught recently.
On the back of the card, you'll see a symbol to the left. For licences issued between January 2013 and February 2014, this will be a steering wheel; for those issued after this date, it's a traffic light. Don't panic about the 'amber light' it displays—this is simply a security feature, and does not bear any relation to any points!
