Apart from the wheels I quite like the Panamera. Sorry.
Doesn't make it classy though does it? I'm sure it drives great but personally I would rather have an XJ, S7, Quattroporte, Rapide, M6 Gran Coupe or AMG Mercedes.

The Cayenne in Turbo S guise I have a bit of a soft spot for. I think it would be an awesome drive and probably the only SUV where I wouldn't take the diesel option. Who wants a diesel Porsche? But in no way is it classy!

I don't see the focus RS as least class, ford is a blue collar appeal but this crosses into motor-head territory.

It is weird how Audi and Ford are seen a least class car, when they are opposites for the market, but I see the class thing as a oxymoron, the person driving makes the class over the car itself, like the old millionaires driving a st car and the lottery winner in a white Audi q7.

But it can fail when the person driving the car thinks, it makes them, or thinks they are a class above...

Simply must be on finance though.

But why wouldn't the car be in finance?

I've got a white A3 tdi on lease, it made sense as I was spending a fortune on petrol doing 10k miles a year.

Is there any data on cars bought on finance v outright cash?

Everyone I know bar one person who owns a new car has it on finance / lease. I don't see what the problem is.

Sure I read somewhere that mercedes is about 80/90% finance/lease.

I see a pattern emerging....there's 2 of these in my street, both badly driven by fat, orange 'full-time mummys' and frequently seen bumped up on kerbs on zigzag lines at the local schools.

I know someone who has one of these, in white, with a mis-spaced private plate...........and it's on finance!

Fishing, but I'll bite.

I happen to like estates (we're on our third). All of them had something, but the alfa was inherently just a little bit special. Probably something to do with that engine.

Referring another poster; the current estate looks base spec and (currently) has a private plate. That this would cause anyone to look down their nose amuses me greatly.

Seems I have put a few noses out of joint!

Apologies folks, didn't mean to upset anybody - this whole thread is based on value judgements anyway. Nothing wrong with poverty spec or whatever, I was simply giving an example of the "image is all" set - as long as the badge is right and it looks expensive nothing else matters. To me, that is a lack of class.

Finance is the way of the world as far as new cars are concerned. If you can service the debt, and don't mind the fact that you won't actually own the car (unless you're mad enough to buy it out of finance at the end of the PCP / whatever term) then that should keep the new car market going, and feed the used car market. I'd like to see how many manufacturers would have a (non fleet) market, without PCP's.

Except they don't. They might have bought some Overfinch alloys and a badge tho.

Any time I see the typical 'white audi bashing', then I click on the posters garage, he's always driving something st in comparison. I can only assume a lot of these type of posts are fuelled by the green eyed monster...
Do you understand what class is? White Audis certainly do not have any class whatsoever.

There is a white a4 on our road. Very nice car it is. I'd even call it classy as it's a fairly handsome vehicle.

I'd go as far as to say most audis are quite classy.

Me neither. How does having the money to buy a car outright make you have class? The majority of footballers or lottery winners certainly don't! A bit of snobbery going on here from the powerfully-built directors that seem to dominate PH in my opinion.

I wanted my wife to have a safe, reliable family car but didn't have a spare $25000 to drop on a new car, so leased her a new Toyota instead AND spent a bit extra on the alloy wheel upgrade. OMG, we must be chavs!

You state on your profile that you are in car sales. Only take cash buyers do you?

The snobbery on this thread is astounding. Don't like a car, fine but why are so many rushing to judge the owners?

Yes I know since clarkson slated audi drivers half of ph started repeating it like programmed robots and it seems a few have picked up on James mays latest programme about the class system. Try and be original FFs .

Why do people think they are trying to buy class, Couldn't it just be that they like them..

I drive what appears to be one of the most hated cars in Britain at the moment- an Audi.
I'll see your Audi and raise you a RRS (automatically makes me a chav) with a personalised plate (increases the chav level by several factors, though to be fair it doesn't 'spell' anything) and then just to ram it home I've also got a yank mobile wink
